I can't believe this is happening... - OutsiderFan - 08-31-2012

I am now faced with the prospect of not being able to see more California and Stanford football games through the first two weeks of the season (four) than I have been unable to watch in the last three seasons combined.  In fact, I can't remember missing any in the last three seasons.

We have Comcast Internet here, but I can't use my Internet account to access P12N online, on my laptop or iPad.  But I just learned Comcast carries the Pac-12 Network in Connecticut, so I may have to drop DirecTV.

This whole thing has been seriously poorly thought through by the Pac-12 executives.  They should have guaranteed online broadcasts would be available in some form (even PPV) before shutting fans out of games across the country.  I remember when I lived in Memphis and got Gameplan to watch a Cal.-U.S.C. game one year.  It cost me I think $10, but it was worth it.  I'd pay $20 each to see Stanford play tonight and the college near a BART station. tomorrow.  It really pisses me off that I can't watch online unless I'm subscribed to a cable company that carries the TV channel.

Hulu should have a live sports channel.

I can understand why the Pac-12 doesn't want to allow online access for people who choose not to subscribe to the TV package that includes the Pac-12 Network: that would cut into demand, and make the channel less attractive to cable companies.  But I don't understand why they're not selling online access in areas where the channel is literally not available on cable or dish (such as the DC area, where I live).

Oh, and I should add, if you are a DirecTV customer, make sure to call them!

They are absolutely tallying how many people are threatening to cancel DirecTV.  The more they get calling, the more pressure to get a deal done.  With that said, the DirecTV rep I spoke to said they are trying to get a deal done by Sept 1, and that they are getting daily email updates on the negotiations.  I don't know what that means, but, it does seem they are indeed negotiating.

The guy I spoke to said he started getting calls yesterday, and I was the third call he has gotten.  He did say there are many reps at many different call centers, and there are different ways to access reps, but three calls is pretty light, IMO.

Anyway, pick up that phone and call 1-888-777-2454 if you are a DirecTV customer!

Sports bars are where it's at...I watch my games surrounded by fellow Stanford fans and shell out $10-15 for food/drink.

Sports bars by and large subscribe to DirecTV.

The Pac-12 did not consider this when it launched its drop DirecTV campaign. There's no way they're going to persuade large numbers of sports bars to change providers.

The Pac-12 clearly over promised and under delivered.

What? Are you suggesting that the great Larry Scott made a mistake? But aren't we supposed to just accept his brilliance without question?

Yeah, it's still a mess.  I could not find a Pac12 bar close by, so I bought the package.

Mission accomplishd by the network, I guess.

Now I am finding that DirectTV has a non-compete with AT&T which will limit ability to watch my second team.

It'll get sorted.

Both of these sites had all of last nights pac 12 games streamed for free:

http://www.justin.tv/directory/sports
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/sport/american-football.html

I think they are safe as long as you don't download anything.

There are a few sports bars in Austin that have Time Warner (and other cable networks that carry the network) as well as DirecTV.

I think FrontRow TV downloads a player - Redrum - 08-31-2012

Go ahead, punk.  Do you feel lucky?

Punk???

Front Row wants you download a player, but you don't have to. When the commercial is done, you can watch the game.
