New operating theory--everyone sucks: Pac-12 edition - washingtonismoney - 09-07-2012

Is it just possible that every team in the Pac-12 aside from colossi SC and Oregon suck? The theory cannot completely be dismissed, as Utah is down by three in the third quarter to WAC team Utah State. Somewhere, Larry Scott is thinking: "Well, I guess I'll have to run the teams and market them, [expletive here]."

Could have been worse.  I saw Utah down 13 to Utah St. earlier in that game.  Now they're all tied up.

If by suck you mean "not ranked in the top 25 at the end of the season" then, yes, I think you have a pretty good hypothesis working there.

Utah State wins it, 27-20!  Pac-12 is getting hammered.

Re: New operating theory--everyone sucks: Pac-12 edition - OutsiderFan - 09-08-2012

The Utah loss could portent a horrific weekend for Pac-12 football.

The only teams with slam dunk wins seem to be U.S.C., Oregon, California, Colorado and Washington State, with the last three playing FCS schools.

After that...

UCLA hosts Nebraska - Likely loss
Oregon State hosts Wisconsin - Likely loss
Washington at LSU - Almost guaranteed loss
ASU hosts Illinois - Possible loss
Arizona hosts Oklahoma State - Almost guaranteed loss
Stanford hosts Duke - Possible loss

Stanford has to beat Duke, not only to get David Shaw's mojo back, to put Stanford fans at ease, and demonstrate Stanford is at least in the same zip code of Oregon and U.S.C., but also for the Pac-12 to avoid being panned by the poll voters, pundits, and computers.  This weekend the Pac-12 brand is at risk of taking a major hit.  Utah may have gotten the snowball rolling.

That said, I'll still be rooting against U.S.C., Oregon, Washington, and UCLA, because I always do!

Everyone sucks, the theory, appears to be further validated. Colorado might be the worst team in the land, and are currently losing at halftime to Sacramento State. USC is sputtering a bit versus 'Cuse; overall most of the SC units look fine, except for pass pro, which looks awful. I'm sure Derek Mason is pleased. ND is looking so-so (perhaps traveling-back-from-Ireland aftereffects)? Re: their new QB, Everett Golson. By ND standards, the hype is real: looks like a shorter Keith Price to me.

kal and Wazzou are edging their respective FCS opponents but don't appear to be dominating, as least by the scoreboard.

The most impressive team so far has been Oregon State. Tough-looking defense. Offense is a bit limited--too many dink-and-dunks--but even though the scoreboard's 3-0, Oregon State has been playing much better than Wisconsin. Guess Mike Riley didn't forget how to coach overnight.

I think UCLA could beat Nebraska.  Cornhuskers seem to be on the downhill side of things, and I hear their starting RB is injured?

It's certainly possible, but I think Nebraska will handle UCLA quite easily.

Beavers up 10-0 on UW. OSU is a big threat this year--the team everyone thought Utah was.

Beavers take down Wisconsin 10-7.  Sluggish on offense but an outstanding defensive effort.  Save some Pac-12 face after Colorado's meltdown.

I feel much better about Stanford's chances in the Pac-12 now.

OSU pulled off a miracle, but we will see over time if they can win on the road.  UW has line problems due to injuries in Baton Rouge.  USC lost its center on a play during a far too close 4th quarter against Syracuse.  Both UW and SC play the Stanford Front 7 before they will be able to get things back together, so that's good.  UCB looked horrible at home against another bad team.  WSU still looks bad.

Only Oregon has looked really strong over the last two weeks.  I wish I was in Cali to see Stanford and Duke, but already I feel better about the odds of a winning season.

These don' seem to be the same ol' Three Stooges Bruins - Redrum - 09-08-2012

UCLA and Hundley looking competitive and capable.  Don't know if they'll win,  but they seem to have lost the stink of Neuheisel rot.

On offense, yeah. Their special teams are worse than the Neuheisel era's and make me wonder whether Brian Polian's moonlighting in Westwood. I thought their defense was bad last year, but it looks worse this year.

Wow, great comeback by the Pac12 tonight!

After the Utah and Colorado debacles, and conceding that Washington got outclassed by LSU, here's what happened:

U$C 42 - Syracuse 29
Oregon 42 - Fresno St. 25
Washington State 24 -E Wash 20
Oregon State 10 - Wisconsin 7
UCLA 36 - Nebraska 30
Arizona 59 - OK State 38
Arizona State 45 - Illinois 14
STANFORD 50 - Duke 13

Pac-12 beats up on the B1G 10 and upsets 3 ranked opponents. I'm excited for the Pac-12 but some of those "easy" wins for Stanford aren't looking so easy anymore.
