TV for Duke game in San Diego -
SamAtoms1980 - 09-08-2012
Hi,
I live in the San Diego area and have Time Warner Cable and I'm wondering if there's any way to watch the Duke game live on TV. According to my listing, both Pac-12 network channels will be showing Oklahoma State at Arizona. I know that there will be a replay at 6:00 on Sunday morning, but is there any way to get a live showing? Thanks.

Quick sign up for Dish. According to the press release all DISH subscribers will get this weekend's match-ups for free. OK, that is likely not viable since it takes time to install.
If you can authenticate online with Time Warner then you could watch the game online. If that is not viable, I suspect you are then looking for a friend that has Dish and offering to bring supplies to make a party out of the visit.
But you week #2 options are already better than your week #1 options. I remain hopeful that by the time the UW game comes along the Pac-12 networks will be available on most major content providers.

Seems as though DISH will carry the national channel and will have a few channels allocated for overflow games when required.
That is fine, really. After watching the Pac-12 channels online for two weeks I noticed that the seven channels had the same content. I am sure down the road the regionals will have different recap and highlight shows in prime time, but that just does not seem to be reason enough for DISH to carry all seven 24/7. In B-Ball season presumably there will be several Thursday nights that require overflow channels, but that can't be a big problem most of the time. And with a quality internet connection there is a reasonable option for those times when a fan REALLY wants to watch 2-14 Washington State vs 3-13 Oregon State in basketball.
I think the Pac-12 really wants to get at least two channels, National and LA, on DirecTV. As a Stanford fan, I think I do not want that actually. It creates a sense that the LA teams are more important than the other 10 teams.
In any event, DirecTV will now be under enormous pressure to reach a similar agreement. DirecTV tries to imply that Dish Network is the cheap no-frills satellite provider, but that positioning is going to ring hollow throughout 2 time zones if they can't get the Pac-12 Networks ASAP.
The Dish Network signing was just a big deal. I am confident DirecTV will now need to have something up and running before the SC v UCB game. And then the other providers will be forced to sign something, and those that have tried to regionalize the Pac-12 will need to offer the channel nationally.
Friday was a very big day.

There is more information here:

There are two Pac-12 channels on Time Warner? Maybe it varies by region, but I didn't see that when I was looking at the TWC channel finder for my area. Maybe we only get one...

Stanford football just put up a Facebook message that the game will be available on Dish channel 445.
Dish will not carry regional network games, but the Pac-12 and Dish are working on online streaming.

Time to give Dish a hand here.
They definitely saw an opportunity to get a weekend of great publicity. Apparently in Oklahoma (a state with crazed football fans) people were really upset because there were no options to watch OK St vs UofA. Now they have at least one for this weekend. I think the logistics could have taken days to work out, but Dish was clearly motivated to get something to everyone ASAP.
Also many people outside the Pac-12 footprint were optionless thanks to the odd cable decisions. Now those people can call and get DISH Network. I am sure it will only help DISH for a short period, but until another national provider steps up they will be able to crow coast to coast about their commitment to all sports, college sports, etc.
The deal gives Dish an opportunity to brag, gives the Pac-12 an answer to all of those complaining fans, and puts big pressure on DirecTV to do something. Yes!

If you have time warner cable, you can access all the pac-12 channels through the Pac-12 website through your TWC log-in.

The faq says that Dish is offering a full preview and then will offer the full pack to subscribers who live in the Pac-12 footprint and have a 120 or more channel package. Those outside the area will need to buy a sports package.

In San Diego the only Pac-12 Dish channel I can get is 413, carrying the OSU AZ game - the other channels don't show up for me at all, so may be a regional issue. Will be able to record replay tomorrow morning...

I didn't expect to get so many replies. Thanks everyone.
I thought I would be watching the game this morning but the show just didn't record. There was just 80 minutes of blank nothing where the game should be. Looks like I'll have to wait for the Wednesday night replay.

Sam - I'm SD with TWC also. I get the national and LA Pac12 feeds, but I was already paying extra for that bonus sports pack that included the low 400s Fox sports channels, & ESPNU, Classic.
When I called they said only one Pac12 channel came with basic-expanded and you needed the sports pack to get the other. (418/419 or 818/819 HD). I think the sports pack is an extra $10/mo.
Regardless, our game was only available on the replay @ 6 AM for TV; mine recorded fine. Just make sure you pick the channel you can see when you record. They both have the same program listings, so an easy mistake.
