Impressive stat for Ed Reynolds: after two games, he has as many interceptions (3) as last year's team leader (Michael Thomas) did for the whole season. And he has more interception return yards than the entire team had last season.Â

Thanks for this. Watching the game last night I had made a note to look up that exact stat.

Reynolds and Richards play has been encouraging -- I was doubtful about ease of replacing Howell and MT3. but the new starters have done well. interesting that Husak had Richards as defensive player of the game when Reynolds had 2 picks, including a pick 6

Reynolds and Richards have high upside as a unit. Like them a lot. But I think they'll have their lows as well as their highs. Still quite young and inexperienced. But things could've been a lot worse at that position.

Personally, this season more than the past few, I'm not only watching for wins, but also for growth. And the amount of improvement between games 1 and 2 was impressive. I think this year more than in the recent past, there will be such things as "good losses," where the team might not win, but players like Richards and Reynolds (and the young OL, and offensive playmakers like Whitfield, Young, etc), show growth.
Of course, a whole string of wins along with the development would be the best of both worlds!

wim -- on a few seam routes, Carrington seemed a little lost and it made me appreciate R&R even more. it also appears that Mason is positive on Hoffpauir and Madhu as we are burning their shirts. also important to note that we will get one of our Spring starting safeties -- Kyle Olugbode -- back in a few weeks. he should help the depth at S.
11 true FR have played so far this year: Martinez, Whitfield, Carter, Hoffpauir, Madhu, Peat, Murphy, Garnett, Rector, Kaumatole, Miller. am I missing any?

At least it'll make Kiffin think twice about picking on our frosh in the secondary. Just you try it, Draco.

Did Rector play last night? I guess I missed him.

I'd love to see us get the ball to Sanders in space and see what he can do. We don't seem to be particularly inclined to do it with Kelsey Young.
Anybody want to bet he won't be around five years if in fact he does redshirt?
Kelsey Young...it's a bit disappointing - Redrum - 09-10-2012
HE isn't disappointing. The way they are not using him is. In two games he has 1 rushing touch and 2 pass recept. Pre-league season is the time to validate this move of a very talented player to a new position. He should be getting at least three looks per game, particularly in a blowout. (Some arbitrary measure I just now made up. But more than what he's getting) Now part of it might be just Nunes' noted tendency to lock onto primary receivers, but still...

My thoughts exactly!

We're loaded in the backfield--if sitting him means keeping him fresh for the three years that we do have BS Jr, then I'm all for it. Is playing him now really going to earn the team more wins?

I'm really surprised we haven't seen anything from Kelsey Young. As much as he was talked up during the off-season, you'd think he'd be running wild by now. Of course, there is the other possibility. Perhaps Shaw is saving him for USC when he can unleash his new weapon and then cackle and say to Lane Kiffin: "Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational Stanford Cardinal!"

We'll be saying the same thing if we can get Ryan Hewitt back fully healthy :)
