Blogging with the Enemy: USC -

Except for the fact that he wouldn't answer my question about Draco Malfoy, there's some interesting insight here.

Let's try that again:

Well, as the the University of South Central/ Stanford rivalry "has shook out"... - Redrum - 09-12-2012
I just love little illiterate-isms that creep into people's speech. Probably a couple in that previous sentence of mine.
Furthermore, I don't believe him. He had the good grace to say nice things, but I don't believe him. the University of South Central Trojan fans are like the Royalists in England, stripped of power and deposed in the English Civil War. They simply can't believe or accept that they're not still in charge.  They know in their bones how the universe is
supposed to work, with them at the center because God himself ordained it.  You only had to be around during the the University of South Central reign of King John the McKay to know exactly how they think.
They don't really consider us a
rival because that would elevate us. They consider us as a
nuisance, an anomaly.
Unfortunately, they might be right. It will take a long time and many defeats for the University of South Central for them to take us seriously. In history's long run, the British monarchy is still around despite Cromwell's best (and worst) efforts. Lots of towns sacked and burned, lots of heads lopped off in the process. I say, better
their heads than ours.

I don't know. It could be that the best thing for Stanford when we play USC is for them to not take us seriously. It pains me somewhat to say it, but that's how we've gotten a lot of our wins against them. For instance, there's no way we beat them in 2007 if Pete Carroll had thought there was any danger that the Trojans would lose that game. Have a look at his quotes from the post-game.
On the other hand, when we get big enough to disrupt their program significantly, that's when they've turned it on and gotten nasty, like when they won twelve in a row from 1979 to 1990.

Well, the Stanford/Austin watch party this Saturday will be with the USC club in Austin, so things should get interesting either way.

The media are not going to let $C forget about us. They are all over Draco and the 0-fer...and calling this their first real test. I kind of like it.

SA1980, they didn't beat us in 1979. That's the year we tied them, to everyone's shock. 1979 was the year that Stanford was the only team U$C couldn't beat, and the only team that Oregon State COULD beat. ::)

My bad, I must have misremembered the JHowell.net data. Looking again, they won every game against us from 1976 to 1990, except for the 1979 tie. The point abides.
