Jordan Williamson is money - Cardinal96 - 09-15-2012

He clearly has a bright future ahead of him in the NFL.

This game is so painful to watch.  The upset is right there for the taking and we are letting this slip through our hands.

Fixed.

Defense came to play, several brobdingnagian turnovers. Stepfan with a great TD run. TEs made some awesome plays on what they could. Nunes not making good throws.

And now a pick....yikes. Get Nottingham in the game.

Seriously.  What is the downside to putting Nottingham in the game.  Nunes is terrible.  Like a deer caught in the headlights.

Re: Jordan Williamson is money - dabigv13 - 09-15-2012

Was about to take back some of the bad things I said about him from that last drive, and then another pick...

Warm up Nottingham during the half. Seriously, Nunes looks like crap. 30% completion rate is not going to cut it.

It's not like we're getting physically dominated. We're just making stupid mistakes.
The passing game, after such excellence under AL, is really tough to take.

Re: Jordan Williamson is money - WaldportCard - 09-15-2012

The armchair quarterback/coach in me is screaming its head off.  Nunes is having a terrible day.  Maybe the curse of the feature, which was sweet, but...a prelude to revealed mediocrity.  Overall, the team is doing great.  U$C is matched across the board.
But: coaching wise: 4th and 23 for U$C and the defensive coordinator calls a prevent defense (or what looked like one).  Gee.  A first down.  Then, a great goal-line defensive stop, but it took 12 men to do it.
Offensive wise: let's run up the middle.  Oh nuts, it didn't work.  Let's run up the middle.  Oh nuts, it didn't work.  Let's run up the middle.  Oh nuts...you get the drift.  The one screen I remember worked well.  Nunes looked great on a couple of opportunistic runs: gave the offense another look.  But: Nunes, again.  "I don't care how many guys are covering my guy, I'm throwing there anyway.  Let God sort it out."  But, credit the Trojans on good pass coverage (except for that sure TD in the back of the end zone).
Anyway, overall, the team is above expectation.  It deserves better from the Football Gods.

Out in the Sticks on the Oregon Coast.

OK

I wasn't going to watch this because I thought Stanford was going to get creamed.  I'd swallowed the Kool-Aid for sure.  Thought Stanford would finish in the top half of the 12, but certainly not be able to overcome Barkley and the Trojans.

But, I couldn't help myself.  I had to watch The Team and see if they would put up a creditable fight.

The final score could have been 30 to 14.  And $C's second touchdown was a gimme.

Hat's off to the Cardinal!  What heart and What talent!

Honest to Jehovah, I've been following Stanford football literally all my life (born in Palo Alto) and I can't remember a more thrilling victory.

The elation that must be going through Taylor on down to the last-on water person must be off the charts.

Maybe this will give Nunnes some confidence.

Prevailed against the No. 1 Voldemort candidate.

More sacks against Barkley than all year last year!  And a solid, talented U$C squad.

So wonderful to see Shayne Skov back in there.  Defense rules!  Kept a sputtering offense in the game.

Oh, good grief.  I'd go to a local pub and buy everyone drinks on me if anyone here knew or cared about Stanford.

Just like Oregon cancelled Luck's Voldemort last year, the Cardinal cancelled Barkley's.

Do we play Oregon this year?

Ashamed I was an Un-believer in Waldport

Don't worry.  Da Baars' kicker might be even worse.  I watched my other alma mater squeak one by them because Da Baars kicker missed three 40 yarders.

Re: Jordan Williamson is money - fullmetal - 09-16-2012

If your defense is solid, you're always going to have a shot at winning, and this Stanford defense picked up the offense, put 'em on their shoulders, and carried them to the Promised Land.  Shutting out U$C for the second half and giving the offense great field position was AMAZING.  Remember that in 2007, I think U$C was up 9 on Stanford at the half.  I looked and saw that $C was only up 7 at the half tonight.  Easy call :)

Oh Jordan Williamson.  What's it going to take to put your head back together?

Eric01,

"Oh, good grief.  I'd go to a local pub and buy everyone drinks on me if anyone here knew or cared about Stanford."

One of us has got to relocate!

I won't buy or those that don't care about Stanford, but I sure will for those that do! ;D

I was born in Palo Alto.  The few times I've been back in recent decades I've been driven crazy and could not wait to get the hell out of there.  The old residential parts of town (e.g. 999 FamousAuthorStree) are still relaxed and charming, but overall, too frenetic.  Much prefer living on the dark side of a black hole here in Waldport.

Re: Jordan Williamson is money - WaldportCard - 09-17-2012

You go, Girl!
I was in the Miami airport.
Once.
Once was enough to swear a blood oath to avoid such environs at all costs.  I can't imagine what NYC is like.
Didn't mean to highjack a thread, really.
Just one last thing: have you ever flown into Orlando with a planeload full of screaming banshee kids?
Ft. Myers, if you must.
Cheers,
Eric
PS: I used to fish for sharks off the Dumbarton Bridge.  Rode my bike there.  Rode my bike to Searsville Lake and Felt Lake, where I snuck in to fish for bluegills.  Peanut Gallery (by the locker rooms at S end at start of 220? straightaway) was my stand for home games.  Them war' the days.  Except having to stable our horses when we took the carriage.  That was a bummer.  Hostler charged $1.00.  Outrageous!

Did someone say "hijacking threads"? Well in that case, let me tell you a coupla Florida airport stories that are of no interest to anybody but myself.

1. I flew through Miami Airport for a football game a coupla years ago in which my football team beat the stuffing out of their football team. I also had the most incredible apple pie milkshake at a gathering of fellow dorky sports fans. Anyway, at Miami Airport, I encountered the Angriest, Surliest, I-Hate-My-Jobiest TSA worker ever. Man, she was a grump.

2. As for Fort Myers Airport, I have flown into Fort Myers Airport, and I have this to say about it: It is NOT the same thing as Fort Walton Airport. This is of extreme importance when you are flying into Florida to support your best friend at his father's funeral. It turns out that Fort Myers and Fort Walton are almost as far apart as two locations can possibly be while still residing in the state of Florida. I wound up sprinting through the airport to catch the last available flight to Atlanta to route through Fort Walton. When I finally arrived at the funeral gatherings, everybody who met me said, "I heard about you--you're the one who flew into Fort Myers." On the bright side of things, my idiocy was able to provide some badly needed comic relief during a sad time, so let's hear it for me being an idiot.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion of Stanford sports.

Goddam it.  I thought I was the only idiot ever to attend Leland Junior.
