An even better quote, from @LevOnUSC: "I've covered every Matt Barkley game. Never seen him as despondent as he was during news conference outside #USC locker room."

If you watch Barkley's presser, you'd swear Stanford killed his puppy.

After watching Woods and Lee do their little cutting down the Tree routine on our goalpost before the game started (Lee pretending to saw down the goalpost and Woods then taking over and pretending to use a chainsaw), I don't blame them for being so despondent.  It must be hard to swallow that much crow.  They were doing a lot of woofing early in the game and it was great to see how quiet they became in the end.  As they say, karma is a ...

More:

Quote:Told of Telfer's comments and asked if the Trojans took Stanford as seriously as they should've, USC right guard John Martinez indicated that he felt they didn't. But he said the problem came later in the game, when they ran out of the limited amount of energy they opened the game with.

"You could kind of feel it when we went out there in the fourth quarter," Martinez said. "Things were dead, things weren't as loud as we were coming out in the first half. I wouldn't say we weren't ready, but the energy wasn't there.

"That's all I can say."

Isn't it a little nonsensical to play that way against the only team to beat you three seasons in a row? Yes, Martinez said, it is.

"I would say so," Martinez said. "But we just ... I don't know what to say about that.”

Barkley's been pretty benign compared to $C QBs of yore; he seems like a likeable guy, especially after reading his AMA thread on Reddit.  Sorry dude, Stanford was just better today.  Maybe with your center and with the rest of your injured defense playing at 100% you would have had a better chance...but that's football.  I'll be rooting for $C against Oregon.

Also, thanks for not throwing down the sidelines to 9 and 2.  I was worried that y'all would exploit the windfall of somewhat bogus PI calls that would have inevitably resulted from such playcalling.

It was great to see TV shots of Kiffin in the 4th quarter. He looked deflated, like a guy with no answers.
