U.S.C. was the highest ranked team we've beat at home since... - terry - 09-16-2012

U.S.C. came into the game with a # 2 ranking. This makes U.S.C. the highest ranked opponent that Stanford has defeated at Stanford Stadium since 1982, when John Elway led Stanford to a 43-31 win over Washington. The Huskies were ranked # 1 in the UPI coaches poll and # 2 in the AP poll at the time. That was 30 years ago. So we witnessed something rare last night at Stanford.

This U.S.C. team was the highest ranked opponent Stanford has defeated in any game, home or road, since the "greatest upset ever" in the Coliseum in 2007, when U.S.C. was ranked # 1 in the coaches poll and # 2 in the AP poll.

Wow, amazing stat.  I hope that motivates this team to push hard and reach their full potential by the season's end...I'll try not to look too far ahead, but this is a great start to the season :)

UW Up Next - Farm93 - 09-16-2012

Speaking of UW.  It really is time to move on.

UW is 2-1.  They looked terrible against LSU, but decent against two lower tier opponents.

It will be Stanford's first road game.  UW is playing in the Seahawks house, but the UW fans seem capable of still creating a fairly noisy environment.  I would love for Stanford's first road trip to be at Colorado, but UW seems like a reasonable first road trip.

The win over SC will always be great, but it will mean a lot less if Stanford plays poorly in Seattle.

I remember the 1982 win over UW.  Some UW fans put a banner on the fence in front of their section that said "Every Dog Has His Day".  At the end of the game, it was taken and paraded in front of the Stanford student section.  An important day in my induction to the obsessive Stanford sports followers cult.

Cheers,
