Today in opponent attrition: Irish - washingtonismoney - 09-16-2012

N.otre D.ame loses top safety/DB Jamoris Slaughter. As always, if you lose a defensive player named "Slaughter" to attrition, you have problems; in this case, the Irish secondary looks wonderfully thin/inexperienced (and haven't really been tested yet by a real QB.)

I think the Irish will be a big test, the swing game for the season. There are some definite players on that squad.

Their D would be top 10 if Aaron Lynch hadn't transferred and Ron Darby hadnt flipped to FSU last second. They're still good but just don't have the depth we do.

There was a segment on ESPN radio today about ND. A reporter from one of the Chicago papers said the front seven of the D looks really strong and that's what is winning games for now. In typical Domer fashion though (at least in recent years), the O remains a question mark, with the reporter saying that while they enough punch to get the job done against mediocre and lesser defences, it remains to be seen whether they can survive much more than that. Quarterback controversies continue, with Golson not living up to the promise he has at this point, and Rees stepping in as a reliever of sorts later in games.
