The best I was able to come up with keeps the California schools together, the Northwest schools together, and places Utah and Colorado in the north with the Arizona schools in the south.

I like yours but it will never happen. The zipper is the only one being taken seriously, it sounds like.

Hmm, but your link splits up the Arizona schools instead of putting them both in the south.
A slight modification of what you had to protect the ASU/Arizona rivalry gives a higher score:

Here is what you maybe intended, with the Arizona schools in the south:

CompSci, your second one is the one I really would like, but all reports have Colorado having been placed in with a SoCal school. Â Probably the Zipper is what\'s being considered, which would place the USC rivalry in jeopardy. (Although placing the 59ers with UCLA and Stanford with USC would obviate that.)
I\'d like to see the Northwest in the same division and the California schools in the same division because in both cases, the schools have natural rivalries amongst the group, and not simply with their immediate (trophy game) rivals.
Of course, that\'s not going to happen. :(

In an interview last week with Ted Miller, Larry Scott said that the working group of ADs is looking at different division alignments
AND "on a parallel track [is] also discussing [the] revenue sharing arrangements."
This implies to me that incentives might be offered to schools that do not get their preferred alignment. Â For example, NW schools might receive more money if they are not in a division with the California schools.

Quote:The Colorado people keep saying they were promised a division with a Los Angeles school, but I sure haven\'t heard anyone in the Pac-10 confirm it. When Colorado shows us the guarantee in the contract they signed with the conference, I\'ll believe it.
Larry Scott flat out denied it. The latest I heard is that it will be the California schools with the Arizona schools, but playing 9 games all-together so the North schools with get regular trips to California.
I like your other post. We can\'t go down to 8, but I think we need to get up to 16 quickly so we can split east-west with the old Pac-8 in the west. We almost made it this last go around. The problem with the current 12 is they split into 3 natural divisions, but the NCAA requires 2 and there is no good way to split the 3 into 2.
