Epic meltdown in progress: Literature's Greatest Losers - washingtonismoney - 02-05-2013

They have lost three prospects today:

Jalen Ramsey, one of the best corners in the country

Jason Hatcher, a DE, to Kentucky

Now, Terrodney Prevot, another DE...to either Oregon or A&M.

Terrodney, on the off chance you happen to be reading this, let me tell you about the charms and wonders of College Station. [.....thinking, thinking, thinking.]

EDIT: should also note that this has the potential to metastasize, afflicting next year's recruiting. I know we're after one of their 2014 commits -- I'm guessing there's a chance we might mention (you know, offhandedly) how we're much more stable than....some other schools in the conference.

College Station is not so cold and damp (you don't want him to go to Eugene, do you?)

College Station - Redrum - 02-05-2013

Sure USC and the Coliseum just ooze that football vibe.  But College Station has its attractions.  Note that I didn't say it had its charms.  When driving into College Station over a pretty flat part of Texas the first thing one sees is a tall building on the horizon. It's the meteorology and geosciences building.  Tall enough that they communicate with research ships in the Gulf of Mexico from antennas on top.

The next tallest thing in the landscape is Kyle Field, the football stadium.  I worked around College Station on an environmental project.  No problem orienting oneself in a strange town because you could almost always see the stadium standing out above all the other buildings on campus and in town.  A powerful statement about the importance of football.  Thing like that IS impressive and I don't particularly like Texas or Texas A&M...but the way that stadium grabs the eye is something.  Bet it has a similar effect on recruits, too.  Particularly when Kevin Sumlin is on the sidelines.

Panic just under the surface - Redrum - 02-05-2013

Dropped in on the USC Scout board to see how they're handling it.  "Calmly" isn't the word that comes to mind.  In fact the board moderator had to issue a warning that he'd shoot to kill any posts or threads that even showed a hint of winding up in those cyclones of  spite, panic, recrimination and abuse.    Bulletin board  equivalent of deploying the riot police and the moderator is the guy with the bullhorn telling the crowd if they keep marching down the street it'll be tear gas and trunchions for them.

This is fun and all, but we should remember to be careful about what we wish for.  This recruiting class may have very well been what is keeping Lane Violation at his job.

Send him a copy of  "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas."

My assumption is that Kif's fired either way. Therefore I want the cupboard as bare as possible.

I enjoyed my 3+ years living in College Station … friendly people, warm weather, planting tomatoes in January. Game Day at Kyle Field is an unforgettable experience. Aggie football is pretty hot right now — you'll like it Terrodney …

How many from their OL 2-deep did A&M lose?  I know they lost at least one All-American caliber player...Joeckel?  A lot of people thought Taylor Martinez was going to be the next hot thing at Nebraska, just saying.

Re: Epic meltdown in progress: Literature's Greatest Losers - Kathy - 02-06-2013

Oh, I don't know ... back in 2010, the Aggies weren't too impressed with Martinez. You could even say that 9-6 victory began the push that propelled the Aggies to their current status. :D

tA&Mu loses Joeckel, the other tackle Matthews and the C Lewis.  not 100% sure on the last one.

Nope, Matthews decided to come back for another year so he could improve his draft stock by playing LT.

An additional point in the be careful about what we wish for department.  This means Lane Violation has more scholarships to offer next year - which is the one rich with Stanford potential.

"An additional point in the be careful about what we wish for department.  This means Lane Violation has more scholarships to offer next year - which is the one rich with Stanford potential."

Because of the sanctions, they are restricted to a maximum of 15 scholarships for next year. They can recruit early admits next year that will count towards the 13 class. But, any roster attrition due to injury, suspensions, academics, transfers, and players leaving for the NFL, will cause them great pain.

You would also have to expect that U$C won't do that will next year, which will also have an effect on next year's recruiting.

Re: Epic meltdown in progress: Literature's Greatest Losers - Leftcoast - 02-07-2013

The wave crested at U.S.C with Pete Carroll in the mid 2000s.  We're in that ebb period between waves where the water recedes, gathers and builds for its next rush against the sand.

Kiffen is an ebb tide guy - he's the Steve Lavin of U.S.C football.  Stanford needs to take full advantage to build our program during the Kiffen period, build LA recruiting pipelines and establish ourselves as a Pac 12 elite, because with U.S.C there will always be another wave.

That's what I thought but this article quotes him as saying he can save those scholarships for next year.  Maybe he's lying.  Honesty is not his forte.
