Richard Sherman calls out Brady and Billichek -
FarmBoy - 10-15-2012
The guy's got chutzpah, that's for sure. I guess it's easy to talk after the game and you know you won't be seeing the other team for 4 years...

Quote:"Any time you run a gimmick offense, you're a little bit afraid -- you're not sound in what you're doing in your base stuff," he said, according to Yahoo! Sports. "You're running this hurry-up stuff, and there's a reason it's not effective, because there are great defenses out there who will stuff it. We figured out early in the game what the calls were, what they were doing, and what the adjustments were. We started executing better, and that's why they got only six points in the second half."
I did a lot of groaning watching Sherman play DB on his days on the Farm, giving receivers 15 yard cushions, but he's turned into a pretty strong NFL player.

I wonder what Pete Carroll thinks of the locker room fodder Sherman's putting out. If #25 can back it up though, more power to him.

So what was the difference with Sherman? More time? Better coaching?Â

I would imagine Carroll is thinking:Â "What's your deal?"
Interesting [although perhaps coincidental] that Sherman decided to go so high profile immediately before the Niners game.
Sherman will always be good in my book for two reasons: his 70+-yard reception to seal the win against UW in Seattle in the 1-11 season and the fact that, after his last Big Game, he pretty much gave away his entire uniform, including his shoes and [literally] the shirt off his back to, and posed for endless photos with, kids [including my son] after the game.

Probably development of his defensive capabilities and better teammates around him, I'd think. And maybe a better defensive scheme?

The other 3 DBs went to the Pro Bowl last season and chipped in to pay for Sherman to join them in Hawaii. He had a great year and together they are playing great this year. He's playing more bump and run - jamming at the LOS.

Sherman had an absolutely beastly senior year with us. I have never been surprised with his success in the NFL.
Same for Baldwin. We're becoming NFL U!

I lost some respect for Richard Sherman after reading the article linked in FarmBoy's post. I've always had the impression that Sherman was both a good player and a good person (and 76lsjumb's post is right in line with my impression). And I've really enjoyed watching his success in the NFL. But Sherman's behavior as described in that article is remarkably classless. I would have expected a lot better from a former Stanford player.

Maybe I'm remembering this wrong but I thought Sherman was bit of a "talker" on the field even when he was at Stanford (as are a lot of other DBs, it seems).
Regardless, my biggest takeaway from that article was that
defense has become a verb while I wasn't looking:
Quote:Besides the interception, Sherman was credited with three tackles and three passes defensed. Thomas had five tackles (two solo) and two passes defensed.

I've never seen a player woof more than Sherman when we took it to SC for 55.
He was giving the Fight On salute, talking to the cameras, etc.

It's one thing to be a "talker" during the game. But talking trash to a player from the losing team as he's walking off the field after the game is over is totally bush league (and tweeting a picture of yourself doing so just makes it worse).

I hate the trend of verbing nouns. ;) It's particularly bad when there's already a perfectly good verb with exactly the same meaning (such as "defended"). The other one like this that really bugs me is saying "gift" or "gifted" instead of "give" or "gave."

Glad this happened as Jabrill Peppers must have seen this, and hopefully thought one can go to Stanford and be a shutdown corner in the NFL.

Kind of reminds me of Harbaugh.

I love verbing nouns, and I wish it was considered grammatically acceptable; it streamlines language and makes it so much more colorful. You can say, "When I type, I hunt and peck with two fingers around the keyboard," or you can say, "When I type, I lobster-claw it." Which one creates a more evocative image?
But you're absolutely right--there's no reason to do so if there already exists a verb with that exact meaning. Doing that is just stupid.
