You've managed to come up with a nickname that has Cal fans in a tizzy over on the Bear Insider. They have a three-page thread about it. Good work!

Geesh .... Four pages trying to disect the "University Near a BART station" nick and no one gets it right.Â
The best line was the guy trying to figure out why we would each type something so long rather than type Ca.l.Â
I think this says more about Ca.l stereotyping than anything else. My wife will laugh about the live-in maid part and then tell me to pick up my own #$%@ socks. I'll also need to remind my public school teaching parents they forgot to give me the keys to the trust fund.Â

Along the way they do get to the reason I created that description, so it is all good.
FWIW - I love the idea that many believe the comment implies...I hate BART, I am a member of the 1%, etc.
It is just that I associate Big Game at UCB with that BART stop. 12 Saturdays I have taken BART to Big Game, and 7 of those Saturdays Stanford won Big Game. Toot, toot! :)

Yeah, a lot of weird projection/odd fantasies in there. No brown people was especially lulzy.
Personally, just like 59ers for clarity: there's no confusion on their part as to what we mean. Hope you're fuming, 59ers!

And some of their posters are sooooo conditioned to see every nuanced thing as a knee-jerk (and Berkely mythos supporting) racial/class conflict. Best to just roll your eyes and not feed the more rabid B.ears.

Another unpleasant visit. The discussion on the hell hole near a BART station board is as dim, grim and dingy as Berkeley itself. In the 70s I tried to tolerate Berkeley three times: once as a freshman, once for summer school after freshman year and finally as a law student. Each time I wanted to like it, mainly because it was cheap. But each time I visited, Berkeley was just too awful to tolerate. The aggressive street culture of Telegraph Avenue, sort of a malignant hangover from the Vietnam era, hung like mustard gas over the whole campus. The grim-faced students fighting their way into classes did little to improve the mean-streets feel of the place. I'll forever be grateful that Stanford saved me from having to live in that world.Â
In 2000 my daughter and I went to Big Game at Berkeley. I told her that UCB was one of the great universities in the country and she should look around to see if she'd like to go there. After the game, which Stanford won in OT, I asked her what she thought of it. "It's dirty," she said, "and the people are mean."
Not much had changed in 30 years.

I kind of like Berkeley: good food, entertainingly weird people, and we win there more often than not. What could be better?
