$¢ or Arizona? OSU going forward? -
AlbanyCardinal - 10-27-2012
If Stanford has any chance of going to the Rose Bowl, it obviously needs some luck on the national scene, but it also will need to top OSU and $¢ in the conference standings, assuming Stanford loses to Oregon but wins out otherwise (and also assuming Oregon wins out and goes the NCG).
As much as we like a high-ranked $¢, given that we beat them, seems to me we want them to lose to Arizona, which would give them four conference losses (1 to us, 1 to Zona, and 2 to Oregon). If they don't lose to Arizona, then I'll be rooting for ND, I hate to say.
OSU's tougher, less clear-cut, I think. We obviously want them as high-ranked as possible when we face them in two weeks, but we also want them, if possible to have 3 losses, should we be up agst. them for the R.B. I mean, if Stanford and Oregon beat the Beavers, they'd be 10-2 and we'd be 9-3. Even though we beat them, the R.B. could still pick them over us, no? If they get past UW this weekend and ASU the next, they're all but assured of going 10-2 at worst. Tough call as to whether we should root for them to lose one more, and watch their rankings lower, or hope they go undefeated before they face us, figuring we'd beat them out for the R.B.
Thoughts?

After watching U.S.C. get up to its typical antics in the first quarter, I can't root for them, whether in our self-interest or not. Maybe if it were a bit less hypothetical and a bit more real, sure.
Anyway, I very much doubt we make the Rose Bowl unless we win the conference, so I'm thinking this is largely academic.

The way 'Zona's tearing up SC so far, it really reassures me about our defense's lackluster effort against them. They do it against everyone, apparently (except...Oregon. foiled again, damn it.)

They (UofA) could be really tough next year...if they can replace their trigger man.

Looks like Arizona is gonna pull it out. As the season has progressed, it seems more and more like Oregon is the class of the Pac-12, with a mire of Stanford, Arizona, USC, UCLA, Arizona State a little bit behind. Unclear just where Oregon State fits in just yet.
*edit* USC just had a brobdingnagian return to keep em in it...not over yet

If I was Oregon, I would be worried. At the end of the year, would an undefeated Oregon have a better resume than an undefeated K-State? I don't think so.

You know Oregon would win the poll votes if they're both undefeated. But K-State would have better computer numbers I'd think. Will be interesting. I think Oregon would also beat out ND in the polls, but again may trail in the computers. I suspect their common games against USC and Stanford will be benchmarks.

This would be a fun year to have a 4 team playoff. It's going to be exciting next season.

Don't look now but Arizona has a decent shot of winning the Pac 12 South. They have now played the 4 toughest teams in the Pac 12. It is all downhill for them from here on out.

I tend to agree, just hypothesizing... -

I mainly think we'll get in the way of ourselves, but if Stanford can find a way to win the rest of the games barring Oregon, I think we'll have a pretty decent shot. The way our QB keeps forcing the ball to double coverages, while missing the more open man, I've a hard time seeing Stanford winning two of the last three (agst. OSU, @ Oregon, and @ UCLA).
