Alabama target Greg Taboada committed to Stanford today! -

Taboada is a Georgia tight end and DE, whose parents are from Spain and whose brother played tennis for Georgia.

Taboada had been open about his interest in Stanford long before the Cardinal offered on September 30. Perhaps our coaches waited to offer since he was not able to fully participate in their summer camp due to a pulled hamstring. In an August interview, he talked about waiting for Stanford:
When I started the recruiting process, I was hoping I could use my football to help me get a good degree. Obviously, Alabama doesnt have the highest degree. But then I thought about it, and playing for Coach Saban, with all the exposure you get from playing for him, its almost like having a good degree. But Im still kind of waiting for Stanford a little bit. I dont want to commit too soon, so that Stanford would that think they lost me if theyre still interested. So thats what is kind of holding me back.
I was going to wait until halfway through the season and send game film to Stanford and see what they think. If I still dont have an offer from them, and no other schools like Georgia pop up, I will probably commit around that time.

Fantastic news! I was worried that the TE position might be the toughest to replace with losing Ertz/Toilolo (particularly Ertz in my opinion -- he seemed to be a bit of a security blanket for both Luck and Nunes), but it looks like we might have some good ones in the pipeline (Kaumatule, Cotton, Taboada, maybe Schultz in 2014). Would be great if we could stay stocked at TE. And if there's a logjam, maybe one of them might want Hewitt's position?Â

I think this guy is headed to DE. Pure speculation. I don't mean Delaware, by the way.

Pretty ballsy to call out the academic chops of the school who was at the time the most likely place for him to end up. Is ballsy the right word?
In any case sounds like a good get. Really hope he gets admitted.

I dunno about that. We have a ton of young talent at DE and not a lot at TE. And if he's athletic he'd probably be tried out at OLB before DE.

Saban was interested in him as an OLB if he played defense so I'd imagine it's the same for us.

Stanford is also recruiting Austin Hooper, apparently as a TE. I don't know if he will be admitted, but Stanford is not done recruiting jumbo athletes.

+1. His highlights definitely do look a lot better as an OLB than as a TE; then again, we have Palma and Kalambayi both at linebacker (I'm not sure if the coaches have made their minds up yet if Palma is an ILB or an OLB).
I also wouldn't be too surprised if Taboada ended up as a Hewitt-esque H-back.

I think he means "almost like having a good graduate degree if you don't pan out and he forces you to leave the team."
If Greg is smart enough to earn Stanford admission and play all four years, he'll pick up any NFL playbook without a problem.
