Odd New Reality Thanks to October Big Game -
Farm93 - 11-02-2012
The Big Game in October has impacted my view of conference games in ways I would not have anticipated.
In the past I would be delighted to see UCB and UW play on a Friday. I would have watched obsessively trying to compare Stanford vs UW to UW vs UCB. I would have happily watched for UCB plays and tendencies, compared the relative size of the O & D lines, etc. It would have been an odd transitive property game that would have kept me engaged in the game for at least a half. The USC comparable was fun and favorable. Yet since SC has problems with Stanford and has had no problem with UCB, that particular comparable would not have been enough for me to ignore this opportunity. I would have seen the UCB UW contest as valuable Big Game information.
But now that Stanford has already played UCB, I am not really that interested in this game. I already know UW is better than UCB. I suspect UW will win by 10 or more, and I really don't care if UW or UCB wins this game. Win or lose tonight UCB will not finish with a winning record, and I am not that interested in watching Jeff make more foolish calls in a sorry attempt to hold on to his job.
It is amazing how that October Big Game has changed my outlook on other Pac-12 November games.

IT IS BETTER FOR US THAT UW WIN, AND USC WIN AT THIS POINT. BUT I HATE KAL, AND RESPECT USC, SO FOR ME, IT'S A LITTLE EASIER TO RATIONALIZE.

It is true that UW winning can really help Stanford a lot. The at-large BCS path would probably benefit from Stanford having a road loss to a quality UW team, and two top 5 BCS teams.
That's won't be enough for me to stay glued to the TV tonight, but it might be enough for me to at least watch until UW is up by 14.

This game is every bit as unwatchable as our last game!

This game is probably still just as unwatchable if the gamecast info is accurate. Turnovers, punts, and turnovers...punctuated by explosive running plays from kal.

Hideous. I turned it on at halftime of the Golden State game just in time to see 3 lost fumbles in the space of 6 plays.

According to the online stats, there have been nine fumbles between both teams...UW with 4 and kal with 5.

Watch the game, any part of it, and then you will realize how great the Stanford staff really is at this coaching thing. And remember UW has a very high priced coaching staff. And Jeff is well, you know.
How bad is it?
Players stretching to get an extra 6 inches while at the 40. Fumble!!! Who coaches that!
Two players in a handoff with both guys leaving the ball on the ground and then they both run away from the ball. Who coaches that!
DBs unable to cover a TE that actually can't run or jump because he has a sprained ankle.
QBs that run around like the football is a baseball or a nerf ball.
8 turnovers, terrible playcalling. Ugh!

BTW that Cal D-Lineman, #50, does he have a chin strap.
3 or 4 times in Big Game he lost his helmet, and at least twice today the helmet has gone flying. You'd think the NCAA would create a rule that if you lose your helmet more than 2 or 3 times that you would not be allowed to return for a series or something more than one play.

You are certainly right about that. And yet, BOTH of the QB's in this game have been touted in various recent threads as being substantially better than Nunes. How can that be?
