Why college football is so compelling -

Just look at these scores:
Arizona 0 Oregon 49
Colorado 34 WSU 33
U.S.C. 14 Stanford 21
Washington 17 Stanford 13
Arizona 48 Stanford 54
UCLA 17 California 43
Oregon State 42 BYU 24
Washington 17 Arizona 52
BYU 14 ND 17
Washington 20 Oregon State 17
WSU 17 Stanford 24
U.S.C. 36 Arizona 39
ND 30 Oklahoma 13
Stanford 48 Colorado 0
Pitt 23 ND 29
Arizona 10 UCLA 66
Oregon 62 U.S.C. 51
None of these scores seem to make a whole lot of sense. There is no discernible pattern to any of them. You could also even throw in LSU coming within a whisker of beating Alabama on this list, because nobody gave LSU a chance and thought Alabama was heads and shoulders better than everyone else.Â
The single biggest factor in sports interest is uncertainty of outcome. I'd say college football has this nailed down in spades.

The law of transitivity certainly does not hold in college football.
Just because A beats B and B beats C, that does not tell you A is going to beat C. What it may tell you is that A is capable of beating C.
So like you say it keeps things interesting. And unpredictable.
