Stanford - 5.5 vs. OSU - Cardinal96 - 11-04-2012
Opening lines are out. We are a respectable 5.5 point favorite over OSU. That is better than I thought the line would be and figured we would be a 3 point favorite.

If I had to bet on that, I'd take the points. I think having someone else at QB changes a lot -- and having someone as versatile and seemingly talented as Hogan could change everything.
I think his presence on the field stands to open up play calling, our running game, and will move the chains much more than we've see. This helps to give Stanford a rhythm, which I don't think it's had all year. I think home-field advantage helps a lot, and OSU is more beat up than we are. I also like that OSU seems to be more up in the air on QB than Stanford at the moment.
My hunch is that this line can't take into account the Hogan factor too much. And I'll admit, maybe I'm factoring it in too much, but we've been saying all along how if we just had a decent or even avg. QB at the helm, most everything else would fall into place. I think Hogan's better than avg. His versatility makes him something other than avg. right off the bat. And his running ability makes up some for a weak or thin receiving unit. I'm hopeful and bullish for the first time in a long while, and I'm loving that.

Not up on my sports betting, but if you are taking the points, I *think* that means you expect OSU to either win or lose to us by less than 5.5 points. Is that really the side you would take? I could see it as a bet, but your post suggests a Cardinal victory by more than 5.5. For the record, that's the bet I would take, but i don't make money setting spreads, either.

I'm not ready to declare Hogan an above average quarterback after his game against Colorado. He's much better than Nunes, but that's like saying I'm a better writer than my former students at Heald.

*Never* judge a player by a single game.
That said, we have had slightly more than one game to look at Hogan, so I'm optimistic that he'll handle snaps, handoffs, etc. and generally won't be a turnover machine.
Who knows about everything else?
I expect the line to move down.
