Is the Stanford fan base fired up? - OutsiderFan - 11-08-2012

Not only is this the last home game of the season this weekend, it is a matchup of two Top 15 teams, and if Stanford wins it has the inside track to the Rose Bowl.

My question is will Stanford fans show up and demonstrate not only support for the team, but also interest in the fact this game has serious Rose Bowl implications?  Or will I see a truly unfortunate number of empty seats when I watch the game on Saturday?

I'd love to see that. They've been playing their asses off. There's no avoiding the reality that Oregon St. isn't the automatic draw that U.SC is always going to be. Not sure where you are OutsiderFan... Is the athletic dept attempting in any significant way to market Stanford football to the general public in the South Bay?

Can't speak for the entire fan base, but I know I am totally fired up.  Due to a series of unfortunate events, it is the only game I am able to attend all season.  Dragging along my high school daughter (a brobdingnagian Cardinal fan) and several of her boisterous Stanford fan friends who have never been on campus before.  From what my daughter tells me, they are all totally pumped for it.  They may not know football, but they know how to be noisy.  So, I suspect we will be doing our part.  Definitely looking forward to it big-time.  Have fun everybody and Go Cardinal!

I'm in Connecticut now.  It's a little early for me to have a noon local time kickoff, but pretty nice for 3pm ET.  I'm hoping to see a packed stadium stadium and to hear a very engaged crowd.

Stanford fans have the ability to have a big impact on the game and cheer on the best part of the team when Stanford's defense is on the field.  To me, this game is all you can ask for as a fan.  You get a brobdingnagian game late in the season with Rose Bowl implications against a Top ranked team on national TV.  What else could a fan want, except maybe a 5pm ABC national broadcast and with Stanford and the opponent both being 11-0 in the final game of the season and the Voldemort on the line?

I recently saw a Groupon for this weekend's game. I just checked and it shows as having sold 370 (each is for two tickets). So it looks like there are at least some attempts to reach a broader audience although the response doesn't seem to be overwhelming.

I'll be in the Bay Area for personal reasons this weekend, and I snagged two tickets from a friend of mine who has to be out of town that weekend.  I'm surprised they're not running a sale for students to fill more seats...maybe it's midterms round #2 on campus?  It's the last home game for goodness sake.

I've seen a two for one floating around on Facebook. I'll post it if I can find it.
