Man, it is SO tough to win when you turn it over 4 times! That was an excellent team effort and a big, big win for our season.

Yes H U G E win. And without Hogan at QB, we lose the game. The toss to Taylor where he was being sacked, as well as the laser to Ertz for the go ahead score, were big time.
Great win!

Hogan was great, especially in his first collegiate start against a ranked team with a tough defense in a big stakes game. We have a legitimate QB again! Win or lose, we at least have a competitive offense again that can keep us in games, assuming that he keeps up the good work.

Thanks for highlighting the Hogan flip to Stepfan and then the amazing run that followed. For me, that was the most exciting play of the season, by far.
On TV, it looked like a strong turnout, which I found very pleasing (Oregon State doubtlessly less so).
I can't give Shaw and the team enough credit, as this was an Oregon State team without any real weaknesses and I'm sure a strong belief in their ability to pull this one out (as evidenced by their response to the early two-touchdown deficit). This is truly a victory worth savoring.
When Debniak and Mauro made key plays in the fourth-quarter, I thought it was another illustration of how talented and deep this defense really is. I had my doubts that enough adjustments could be made to stop Oregon State from putting up a couple a more touchdowns, but the coaching adjusted to take away the screens and really the front seven again imposed its will and really was pretty dominant in the fourth quarter.
As for Hogan, it's worth remarking on what Shaw said in the post-game TV interview. On the short pass TD to Ertz, Hogan checked into that play. That's a lot of moxie along with I guess seeing the defensive alignment--a very, very good sign for the future.
Not a perfect game all around--I worry about Williamson, Montgomery's near-total absence and want to see Kelsey Young get more than one touch a game--but truly a signature win for what I'm beginning to think of as the Shaw era...or dare I say the Hogan era?

Not so much during the pre-game talk on Fox but I was relieved to see the stands pretty full later in the game. The students didn't seem to get energized until later in the game as well.

Though my prediction was Stanford to crush Oregon State and they only eked out a four point victory, that was the Stanford team I expected to see today. No, they can't be thrown out, but the four turnovers are an anomaly. Without them, Stanford wins the game handily.
It's pretty common to hear about physical offenses wearing down a defense with the run, but not so common to hear about defenses wearing down offenses. In particular, this game changed in direct relation to the beating Cody Vaz took. He avoided hits for the most part in the first half, but was bludgeoned in the second. He was never the same after the last hit by Trent Murphy, which wasn't even a sack.
Stanford today proved it is a Top 10 team. Neither the offense or defense was consistently great, but each unit did what it had to do to deliver a win. Oregon State was held to 311 yards, including just 77 on the ground, and Stanford's offense put up 413, despite four turnover, three of which were quite costly.
The narrative is going to be that Stanford would be 10-0 right now with Hogan playing QB at Washington and Notre Dame, and it will be helped by the fact that Husky team also beat Oregon State.

A very happy 22nd birthday to Zach Ertz! What do you want for your birthday, young man? I want to score the game-winning TD. And the fates obliged.

I listened to ESPN Radio around 5:15 PT and they had Zach on for about a 5-minute interview and a lot of Stanford love.

Another note about the missed field goal ... The guys on the radio had their on field guy report that it was partially blocked, someone got a hand on it.
