Garvin, just how much of a disadvantage did Burford have playing with the more lenient defensive holding rules?

You know, just to make extra sure Ertz breaks those records, he might want to stay an extra year.

Man, I could swear B-Mo had more than 10 TD receptions. If not, they were a fun 10 to watch.

Call me delusional optimist, but based on the Senior Day recognition, it appears that just about everybody that has eligibility is coming back. They all know this is a special team and could win it all next year.

Does the 1970 total include the '71 Rose Bowl....the greatest TD catch ever by a Stanford tight end? OK, Fleenerites, let's get it on!

CI we're going to need some youtube evidence to consider your argument.

CowboyIndian, your memory is playing tricks on you. The "greatest TD catch ever by a Stanford tight end" wasn't actually a TD catch. It was a 35-yard completion from Plunkett to Moore on 3rd and 17, taking Stanford down to the 2 yard line and setting up a TD run by Jackie Brown.
The stats I gave for Bob Moore don't include his Rose Bowl numbers (5 catches for 113 yards). At that time, the NCAA did not count bowl game performances in its stats. That policy was changed in 2002.

I imagine it's on YouTube someplace....maybe not. But I meant 'greatest' as in 'most important', although it appealed to me aesthetically as well at the time.

Thanks, Terry. Maybe not a TD, but it was sure a pretty catch, though, wasn't it?

Thank you so much for the links to the 1971 Rose Bowl. That was a wonderful catch.
I started watching football seriously in 1977 and had never seen those classic games, though I had heard all kinds of stories of course. (I might have seen bits of the Stanford Rose Bowls around the house as a kid on New Year's day, but I don't remember it.) It reminds me of how much I would rather see Stanford win a Rose Bowl than a national championship. Like the Giants winning the World Series, it feels like the last big sports accomplishment I would like to see during my lifetime. One item is checked off the list....

For a few years Bob Moore was the color announcer on Stanford radio broadcasts. He would analyze the plays like a coach. He would explain the offensive and defensive schemes in great detail. I've never heard anyone else like him.

Bob Moore is now an attorney in the East Bay...may be retired for all I know; I see him in Chuck Taylor Grove on game days. When he played, he was about 6'2", I'd say...maybe 6'3" and thick. An excellent athlete, he pitched for Stanford as a frosh. He was also from Oregon, if I recall.

In case you missed it (or I missed it posted elsewhere), Ertz has been named a finalist for the Mackey award.
