New football commit (stealth variety) - washingtonismoney - 11-22-2012

We've flipped Ohioan Mile Tyler from Vanderbilt. He's a defensive player, 6'4" 225 so the guess here is he's a OLB/TE type. Besides Vandy, midmajor offers (and Minnesota.). Three star, though 247 has him has a high three star.

One thing is for sure. With a 3.9 and a 32 ACT he won't have much problem getting past admissions, unless he's got some serious skeletons hidden away in his closet.

Seems like a player.

late bloomer.  18 sacks as a SR after not playing as a SO.  visited us in April and summer camp.  looks like a good pickup.  body wise and play wise he reminds me a bit of Chase Thomas, although Tyler looks to be about 25lbs heavier.

This is Trent Murphy all over again.  Murphy was listed at 6-5 222 coming out of high school.  Tyler: 6-5 225.

That was quite an impressive video, and I'll bet as or more impressive then Murphy's Senior highlight video.  Great quickness and explosion, pursues relentlessly, uses his hands well, sheds blocks not just to get off them, but to make tackles, and hits with force.

Stanford clearly was waiting to see Tyler's Senior year video before offering him, based on the fact the Rivals article says he camped at Stanford but had no offer when he came.  Had he been as impressive as a Junior they surely would have offered him much earlier.  So it's safe to assume the kid made a great leap in performance from his Junior to Senior year and that he gets bumped up in the rankings.  When a perennial Top 10 BCS school offers someone, that means something!

Might Tyler's commitment, along with Barton, Kalambayi, and Palma mean Stanford is done with LBs in this class?  I mean I know Isaac S. and Randolph are still out there, but it seems unlikely Stanford will allocate more spots in what seems to be a small class, to LBs.

Barton's going on a mission, so I wouldn't necessarily be shocked by another LB. My guess is that the coaches are best player available at this point.

Can you imagine what the Ivy League coaches thought? - Redrum - 11-23-2012

Lots of Ivy League  offers.  They must have fallen on their knees every night begging the Deity : Please, please, p-l-e-a-s-e.

I thought a couple of the teams in the highlight video played like guys from chess team dressed up as football players.  But as I watched the most striking thing was his motor and drive to finish plays.  The quality of the opponent didn't seem to matter.  I think he is a great get from Vanderbilt, whose posters seem to think a winning season has earned them better guys than Tyler.  I think they have it backwards.  Guys like Tyler would earn them more winning seasons.

I bet the lack of offers for Tyler reflects the academic orientation: once he made the commit most schools figured why bother? What, is Cincinnati going to sell its academics to him or something?

I was more skeptical.  He is not as highly rated by the recruiting agencies so some big-name programs might have looked past him.  Which is fine by me; we have gotten good recruits in a similar manner before.

Re: New football commit (stealth variety) - slide - 11-23-2012

on lack of recognition, Tyler had a short resume due to limited PT before SR season.  he may not have camped much this summer either.  looks like he will be a good pickup for us.
