While counting our blessings, count a couple more you forgot you had - Redrum - 11-25-2012

Say a prayer of thanks that the David Shaw regime isn't even in the same galaxy with Gene Chizik, former coach of the Auburn Tigers.  Fun read, in a scary kind of way.

Shortcuts to short-term success rarely leave lasting legacies.

He was a decent defensive coach at Texas though.  I hear Texas needs one of those; Diaz doesn't seem to be doing the job.

Not just the SEC. Troubles surface post-Tedford - Redrum - 11-25-2012

Over on Bear Insider, a guy posted a message from a player parent about life under the Tedford regime's final seasons.  It spoke of:
-- Alleged dictating of terms by Keenan Allen re QB Maynard.
-- Reaction  in the ranks to Maynard that found its way into game performance.
-- Lax discipline on academics w/ Tedford saying one thing and doing another.
-- Starters who didn't follow team training requirements. Open defiance , or at least, no accountability.

Watching next season for the 59ers should be pretty fascinating. There's enough talent there to make a UCLA-esque turnaround possible, but I wonder how ready the players are, mentally, for that change. One story I remember from last year about UCLA is, during their bowl practices, the Bruin seniors did their over-the-wall routine to skip practice. But not all the Bruins left, and one player said more-or-less "this sh*t ain't happening next year."

So I think the Bruins were mentally receptive to changing their ways and doing the things they needed to do to win. Are the 59ers? Not sure I see any signs of that.
