Question about the game against UCLA - Tycho124 - 11-26-2012

It's probably been asked somewhere on the board but I couldn't find anything.  Why wasn't the band at the game on Saturday?

The story that I heard from a Stanford Alumni Assoc employee is that the Band is being punished for its performance at the Fiesta Bowl.  They have been banned from travelling all season.  Hope that the ban is lifted for the bowl game.

You know, the Okie State fans made a big fuss over something, but I couldn't hear it at the time, and I also couldn't hear it on the replays. Is this the athletic department clamping down on the band "just because?"

The OSU fans were upset with some justification that the Stanford Band played during the postgame award ceremony.  While their coach and players were on the platform receiving various trophies, apparently the Band kept going.

The OSU fans were also aggrieved at the (AD-approved) pregame show which was a tribute to the state of OK by making fun of the lyrics to "Oklahoma."  I don't know if the fans' complaints about the pregame show factored into the AD's punishment.  As someone who grew up about 100 miles NE of Stillwater and is a 4th generation Oklahoman, I would say to the Cowboy fans, "Lighten up, Francis."

Yvonne and Spiny-

The band, AFAIK, is planning on being at any post-season game.  And hopefully travelling with the volleyball team as well.  Lots of logistical details to work out with either (women's VB Final Four is in Louisville the weekend after finals end.)

They didn't travel to UCLA more because of other problems that occurred during the Fiesta Bowl trip than for any reason related to performance. To be honest, the scheduling also didn't help; with Stanford giving students the entirety of Thanksgiving Week off, the large majority of students were away from campus visiting family, to the extent that the Band couldn't rally up enough folks to cover the basketball and volleyball home games over the past week.  Of course, part of that was that a lot of the students who didn't travel home for the holiday made the trip to Los Angeles anyway.
