They list two prices, $185 and $150, with the $150 seats being end zone.
You can either have them mailed or pick them up at one of the Stanford hotels in LA. They'll send them Fed Ex on December 17.
There's a map on gostanford.com that shows where the Stanford sections are.

Merc reports today that Stanford has already sold out their initial allotment of 31,000 tickets.

I hope we don't end up in the end zone, but as long as we're among the Stanford people we'll be okay. Are we the home team?

Anyone know how to tell if you actually
have tickets??
I made my purchase (or submitted my application via gostanford.com), got a confirmation, and my credit card was charged. However, the "receipt" I got makes it sound like I won't know til the 17th whether or not I have some tickets and I'm unwilling to make plans based on a 'Maybe.'

The AD is making blanket statements like "no fans will be turned away" but I don't see how they can say that. What if another 50,000 requests show up? In the end, if you have some sort of Stanford affiliation I think you're safe.
I'm in the same boat as you - confirmation email, credit card charge is pending, but no tickets. A little more complex for me as I require a wheelchair accessible seat for my daughter (noted on the application.)

I'm in the same boat but I took it to mean you wouldn't know WHERE you were sitting until the tickets arrived after the 17th. Hope so, anyway. I'm pretty sure I have parking, though, so I'll have a dry place to listen to the game on the radio.

Allegedly the seating/allocation is being made this weekend according to the ticket office.

The Rose Bowl has a lot of corporate sponsors. I suspect that for some level above 31,000 they simply take from their maximum corporate sponsor allotments. I would guess there is some number of fungible tickets that is known to all, and Stanford is below that number. And using the 2000 experience Stanford and the Rose Bowl are confident that Stanford's max of actual Stanford fans will fit. It is not as if Stanford and the Rose Bowl had to go THAT far back, say to 1959 or anything. :)
I do know that traditionally the BigTen school fans are very clever at getting tickets from the Pac12 schools. The Stanford AD announced availability to the public, so I am very confident we have some Wisconsin types in our mix. The AD will get to cleanse them away, if needed, by using the disclosed Stanford screens (alum status, donations, season ticket holder, other athletic event purchases, etc.) I think the AD is probably very confident that established Stanford customers will be fine.
If the concern is coming from a person from Texas (or Wisconsin) that just happened to ask for tickets for the first time from Stanford, I suspect that person may be on the bubble and should be concerned that they might not get tickets. But those types know their alternatives and know the prices for those alternatives will be well above face value.
Re: Rose Bowl tickets - Cardinal96 - 12-05-2012
I don't like the uncertainty of getting tickets through Stanford insofar as not knowing where you will sit. This is a special occasion and I have no problem paying extra for good tickets where I know I will be. We went through StubHub.
Re: Rose Bowl tickets - Gettingolder - 12-05-2012
I eventually got through to the ticket office on the phone shortly after the 9 o'clock start on Monday. Even though my wife had an account on gostanford.com (non-alum) that we used for single game tickets in the past, they suggested I use my account (alum) for this game for a "higher level of engagement". Turns out though, I couldn't use either account to purchase the $185 premium seats (told that season ticket holders were the only ones currently able to buy these). Gladly paid for 4 of the end zone seats at $150 a pop, but on the public access link. Hopefully they do have some sort of screening for alums, friends of the University, etc. for this public link.

In a way, the end zone gives you a better perspective to see how the entire play develops. Like playing Madden or NCAA Football 1X. I got NCAA 12 to commemorate the Orange/Fiesta Bowl team. Looking forward to playing NCAA 14 to commemorate this and next year's team.

Re: Rose Bowl tickets - pincemob - 12-11-2012
Can someone help me read this. Is section 1 a Stanford end zone section or is it a white/blank section? Do you look to the left of the line or to the right?Â

Comparing it to the StubHub map, it looks like a Stanford end zone section.

Wrong-O!! We bought through Stanford and ended up high in the same end zone as the Band...but on the Big 10 side of the field!...Section 24. I guess that $5 I gave to the Buck/Cardinal Club was wasted.
Re: Rose Bowl tickets -

There is the possibility that when we ran out of our allotment, we ended up buying some on the Wisconsin side. You should definitely contact the athletic ticket office and double check. Sitting on the wrong side would be an awful experience.

Re: Rose Bowl tickets -
Spiny_Norman - 12-11-2012
If you get an end zone seat, sections 24-28 > sections 9-12. Why? The Rose Bowl only has one good video board and it is right above section 12. If you are in the north end zone, you have to look over your shoulder to watch the video board.
I sat in section 13 for the recent Stanford-UCLA game. On some plays at the far end of the stadium, the only way to follow the action was by turning away from the field and watching it on the board.
