Stanford football players unjustly finish second in
all sorts of awards. Eifert over Ertz for the Mackey Award.

Don't worry, Zach, we've got a support group w/ Gerhart, DeCastro, Luck and Fleener (the latter, outrageously, wasn't even a finalist!)

I'm really starting to dislike the Dartmouth of the Rust Belt.

I don't know, Ertz is an outstanding player, but Eifert is too. Both made clutch TD catches in traffic to key big wins (Eifert against Stanford and Ertz against Oregon). Can quibble too much on this.
     G  R    Y   YPC    TD  RPG YPG
Ertz:Â 13 66 837 12.68 6 5.1 64.4
Eifert: 12 44 624 14.18 4 3.7 52.0
The biggest injustice was Fleener not even being a finalist for the Mackey award last year, when he should have won it.

In addition to scoring the tying TD against Oregon, Ertz scored the winning TDs against U.S.C. and Oregon State late in the game.

On the bright side, this is one more reason for Ertz to stay one more season.

no one would pass the 1st or 2nd round for a chance to win the Mackey award. If he comes back it is to win a NC.

If you're making a "Pros / Cons" list, I can see putting "win Mackey Award" somewhere on the left side of the list, but probably under things like NC, Another Year on the Farm, and increase Draft Positioning.

Coming back to win anything is not a good idea. Just ask Barkley.
If Ertz comes back, I hope he does it for a good reason -- like another year of one of the best periods in life which you never get back once you leave college. Or getting even better.

well I think coming back for one more year to win a NC would be second to having another fun year in college with his friends.

The amount of training and effort required to be a Stanford student-athlete contending for a national title can take something away from the 'fun' aspect of school. It can be fun, but it won't be for much of the time.
