Very good AP article - washingtonismoney - 12-05-2012

On David Shaw/Stanford football powerhouse. Hate to spoil the end, but it's a good one:
Quote:One of those moments happened this past Sunday, when Willie Shaw walked into his office. Before the two exchanged words, Shaw's father - once a candidate for the Stanford head coaching job in 1992 before Walsh decided to return - smothered his son for a once-in-a-lifetime embrace.

''It wasn't one of those 2-second hugs,'' Shaw said. ''It was one of those kind of 10, 12-second hugs. He's very proud. He's very excited and he let me know that I don't have a choice: He's going to be on the field for the Rose Bowl.

''He informed me that he's been waiting his entire career to be on the sideline of a Rose Bowl game. I said, 'You've got it, coach.'''

Shaw apparently is stopping by Paly today. Hm. I wonder why????

(also: Antonio Gonzalez, who's a Bay Area-based AP reporter, has done some really excellent stuff on Stanford football this year.)

''We actually see less people than everybody else,'' Shaw said. ''We just have to go to more places.''

I think it should be "fewer people," but I'm sure Kathy will cut him some slack...

Re: Very good AP article - Bruce Wang - 12-05-2012

"The diagram David Shaw has for the future of Stanford football is on a simple sheet of paper resting on the coach's desk. The itinerary for this week: Wednesday at Palo Alto High School. Thursday in Ohio. Friday in New Jersey and Saturday at the Virginia state championship game."

Paly = Chryst
NJ = Peppers
VA = Burns

Ohio?  I wonder who this is.  Stealth recruit(s).  Interesting.  Forgot about Chris Sanders.  Must be him. OK Sanders is in TN, assumed he was in Ohio because of who his father is.  Anyhow, back to the Stealth recruit(s). The Rose Bowl is a BIG deal in BIG10 country.

Could also be Mike Tyler, 2013 commit we flipped from Vandy relatively recently.

Ouch...  Tough crowd [...especially since this has nothing to do with Nunes]  ;D

Idle speculation and wild guess here.  Shaw is trying to flip CB Cameron Burrows from OSU.  Makes sense given the rumored bad news about Johnny Johnson.

Does anybody know the tail number of the jet Shaw is using?  Or does the Stanford HC fly commercial.

I know that the coaching staff is not allowed to comment publicly on recruits prior to signing day. Is announcing where you are visiting a public comment that runs afoul of these rules?

Nope. Nor is strongly hinting aloud stuff like, "We sure could use a running back." (That was a Jim Harbaugh special. Tyler Gaffney, IIRC, committed soon afterwards.)
