WBB: Stanford 73 - Tenn 60 final -
M T - 12-22-2012
Looks like the real Stanford team!
5 players in double figures. Chiney 21pts 19reb.
Tennessee 41 rebounds, Stanford 41
Not a dominating win, but still pretty solid, but a coast-to-coast win against a ranked team on the road.
Chiney continues to show just how dominating a player she can be.

What a great win.Â
Not to quibble about the calls, but the refs had to be effected, when the crowd was going insane, and Tenn. was cutting into Stanford's lead. Ruef may have gotten away with one non-call, but she also got called for standing still, at least once, when a Tenn. player initiated contact. (I liked the time the ref helped her up after a great hustle play.) Also, how about calling "over the back" once in a while? Forget it, they won.
We can be so hard on this team. Stanford is up double digits in the first half and my friend and I were complaining about all the Tenn. O boards. All the negatives are so clear! What did Chiney end up with 21 and 19? I wanted more! I really think we may be setting the bar too high.
That was a great coaching job, so I may have to rethink my complaints about the strategy against SC. After all, Tara and I have one Hall of Fame induction between us.

FINALLY! A win at TN! First time since 1996. I've seen (in person) WAY too many games slip away vs. TN. TN sucks this year, but too bad. It was nice to beat them!
Tenn fans will bitch about the calls and agree there were some that were missed, but there was a stretch at the end (like we've seen many times vs TN) that we get called for ticky tack fouls, but the hacking in the paint (over the back) by TN was NOT called.

One of wbbfan's goals for this game was to get more balanced scoring, so seeing 5 players in double figures was gratifying indeed. No injuries is an every game goal, and mission apparently accomplished on that front as well.
O Boards can be such a strange stat. My friend, a Stanford Prof. who I've known since the 6th grade, and I, call it a Moses play, when you miss your own shot, get the rebound, and put it back in. Moses Malone made a living at it. Chiney is very, very good at it.
Furthermore, when you are clunking your 3's as Tenn. was, you get long rebounds. Long rebounds tend to trend in favor of the offense. Further, furthermore, there were many "over the back" calls that should've been called, but weren't. Plus, sometimes you are helping on D, and end up out of position to rebound. We need MT to crunch the numbers!Â

what a great game by Chiney. The most rebounds ever by an opponent at TN. I think she was fired up with Nneka and her family in the stands.

I am so pleased to see the balanced offense. It sounds like Toni continues to be our lock-down defender on opponent guards, and she did a great job limiting Simmons. I was traveling and so missed it all. Thanks for linking some highlights!

This is from Comcast. For some reason the Pac-12 deal with them doesn't allow access to the Pac-12's own video web site. Instead I can get live channels via Comcast's web site (or rather, I could if I were running a Microsoft operating system with Microsoft's proprietary Silverlight video viewer installed), but I don't see a way to get highlights like this. Sigh.

The link worked fine for me. I have Comcast in the east bay. There was a box that popped up about using the service provider login. But I clicked "continue" and everything was fine (using Firefox). I have logged in to the Pac-12 site before. Maybe there is some problem with the code if you are logging in for the first time.

Ignore, skip or continue past the PAC 12 pop ups and you can eventually view the video. The highlights once you do are worth it for Chiney's rebounding and put backs alone.

I don't know if they've fixed things, but I was able to see the highlights (as Flash video in FF 17.0.1 on OSX 10.6.8 ). I did see that error message after the video from my. If it helps, the embed script JS is
<script src="http://player.ooyala.com/player.js?embedCode=5rNDJ0Nzr9f-wmdKuBgDAckRo6aF5RAd&playerBrandingId=88290922e1bd439e9c78d992872b3dd3&width=960&deepLinkEmbedCode=5rNDJ0Nzr9f-wmdKuBgDAckRo6aF5RAd&height=540"></script>
Among the highlights are Chiney's left handed 8-foot shot and the moving screen (at 1:50)
Also, people might to see this short bit from Chiney this week at the WBB HoF

As for stats, there was nothing too surprising. Season high Points off Turnovers for Stanford. For our opponents, season high free throws made and 2nd chance points and FT%. They tied Fresno State(!) for offensive rebound margin (+8) over Stanford. It is kinda interesting that so many of our stats were very close to our season average, but of course the opponent wasn't an average team.
vs Tenn
FG/FGA: 28/59 3PT 4/14 FT 13/15Â OR+DR: 13+28 PF: 14 Pts: 73 A/TO: 15/9Â Blk/Stl: 6/6 PiP: 36 PoT: 17 2CP: 18 FBP: 4 Ben: 13
Season:
FG/FGA: 30/59 3PT 5/14 FT 11/15Â OR+DR: 13+32 PF: 12 Pts: 76 A/TO: 15/12Â Blk/Stl: 6/6 PiP: 35 PoT: 12 2CP: 14Â FBP: 3 Ben: 18
It was our 5th straight game with the opponent having less than 10 assists.
A quick view of the stats in the So. Carolina game:
Season lows for Stanford:Â FG, FGA, 3PT, 3PTA, Pts, Assists, Points off turnovers, Bench points, Assists/FG, 3PtA/FGA, 2Pt%, 3Pt%.
Season lows for Stanford relative to opponent:Â -16 FGA, -2 Assists, -6 Steals, -3 Bench pts, +11 TO, -27 3Pt%
Opponent season high: 6 fast break points
Opponent season low: 4 2nd chance points
I wouldn't say that I feel confident about the UConn game, but I am a lot less anxious.

Maybe the problem is actually with trying to view the site from Linux. I tried with Windows and did get the chance to click through pop ups and view the video. From Linux, it's no dice; there is just one popup, and closing it sends me back to the Pac-12 home page. I was using Firefox in both cases.
