Seattle-based Stanford alumni having brobdingnagian games vs. 49ers - washingtonismoney - 12-23-2012

Doug Baldwin with a big catch on a long pass.

And Richard Sherman just returned a blocked FG for a TD.

Sherman with a pass defended. He's....really good. Makes you wonder what would've happened in alternate universes:
1) where he's a CB from day one
2) where he's a WR for his entire career.

USC concentrates on 5 and 4 star recruits.

Baldwin was a 2 star and Sherman a 3 star. And Sherman was a pretty bad cornerback when he played for us - he couldn't cover anyone and was always chasing his receiver after they caught the ball.

Harbs missed on Sherman but Baldwin would've sooner been a 59er than play for Harbaugh post-college.

Sherman was bad in 2009 but quite good in 2010.

I don't agree. Sherman was a good CB at Stanford, especially in his last year.

Sherman with a pick in the endzone. He's really good.

Sherman was terrible his junior year but good his senior year. But he was hardly an NFL starting caliber CB his senior year. He didn't show any sign of that and that's why he wasn't even drafted. But he started playing CB so late he was able to keep on improving. It happens sometimes.

He was drafted in the fifth round.

Baldwin was the undrafted one.

In any case I don't think anybody who saw Richard Sherman play CB in college thought he would be a Pro Bowl caliber CB in the league.

As mentioned he was terrible his junior year and pretty good his senior year, but he was drafted as a late round flyer CB who could match up against another teams big WRs. He wasn't supposed to be a starting CB in the league let alone the best CB in the NFL. He had the speed and the size to be good, but it is very impressive how his coverage techniques have progressed so quickly.

I remember Sherman getting spun in circles in his Junior year (1st as a CB) particularly against the best receivers (remember the ND game with Golden Tate?).  In his Senior year it was a whole new story - he came on strong in big situations and justified Harbaugh's decision to have him switch positions.  With his promise, size and attitude Seattle wasn't the only team looking for him as a mid-round draft choice.

Good for Sherman - but please layoff the PEDs, borderline or not.

Some Grade A Harbaugh antics described herein:

Quote:If some of the Seahawks wanted Carroll to put it on Harbaugh, they had their reasons. Two Seattle defensive backs, Sherman and Earl Thomas, told Y! Sports that Harbaugh drove by the Seahawks' team bus in the Candlestick Park parking lot following the Niners' 13-6 victory in October and mockingly saluted the vanquished visitors.

"He honked his horn at the bus and waved," said Sherman, who did not witness the incident. "That happened — a bunch of the guys told me. Yeah, he was [honking]."

Said Thomas, noting that Harbaugh turned 49 on Sunday: "Happy birthday — that's what you get. Yeah, he [honked at us]. It seems like he tries to be a professional in front of the camera, but he does his antics, like that, when the cameras aren't around.

"He's just a big kid. We don't worry about that stuff. We just play the game. The best team won [Sunday], and it was convincing."

Tries to be a professional on camera? Really?

Classless, but funny.  Da-n funny.

I can think of little Harbaugh could do to make me like him more than mooning his rivals team bus after beating them  ;D

Of course, they have to beat the rival first.  Stupid Niners (nice to see Baldwin and Sherman tear it up though).

It said he mockingly saluted them.
Not quite as bad as mooning them, but......
And , yeah, I could see JH doing that.

Sherman wins his appeal and won't miss any games.
