I can't say I like Drukarev's or Rivals chances... - Redrum - 12-24-2012
with running a self-sustaining, profitable website, but he's got the chops of a first class sports
reporter. Finds stories worth publishing, seems to cycle faster than Scout and its obvious he puts in the time asking questions and seeking out angles beyond the normal stuff we read. Too bad he's the biggest dawg in a very small (Stanford) yard.

Yeah, I've noticed that of the Rivals sites for other teams receive the least traffic, as well. Still, their recruiting information is much better than either Scout's or ESPN's. Maybe they should take the 247 model and simply report on recruiting. They could abandon the other boards, and maybe charge a little bit but not much more.

Maybe Nwafor steps into the middle for some snaps. Depending on how game goes, might not be able to get by playing only Anderson, Parry, Gardner and Mauro.

Has he played this year? I wouldn't want to burn his redshirt in the bowl game.

I don't think he has. There's a gostanford.com piece on the U.SC game in which he is erroneously said to have played, but that was Kyle Murphy.

Quite a cunnundrum. Anderson, Gardner, and Mauro are undersized for the NT position. To make the 3-4 work, especially against a running team, you need a dominant 300 pound type in the middle.
Is Nwakfor so good that he wouldn't stay five years? Would it be like playing Andrew Luck in the Sun Bowl? Yes, you burn the redshirt to win one game, but the player may not use that year of elgibility anyway. Goodness knows, we sure could have used even a rookie Luck in the Sun Bowl.

Andrew Luck injured his hand before the Sun Bowl and was unable to play.

Wonder how he feels about burning his redshirt to play in one game, even if it is the Rose Bowl?
So, who among you would burn his shirt to get a win? - Redrum - 12-24-2012
No Rose Bowl win since 1972. It's obvious from play in the first half of RB 2013 that our guys are getting pounded and are wearing down. Those linemen SO proficient against the passing game are overmatched. Is it worth it to burn Nwafor's shirt to end 40 years of frustration?                    Â

I was negative 12 years old the last time Stanford won the Rose Bowl, and I would burn the redshirt of everybody in our freshman class if it meant getting a win.

Nah, it'd be really silly to burn Nwafor's redshirt for one game. Kind of surprised this is an actual debate.
I think the struggles against UCLA were more related to the spread concepts -- especially those pesky swing passes -- than Stephens's absence per se. I think Parry & Anderson/Mauro will be more than fine.

I'm with Wash on this. It is the Rose Bowl, grandaddy etc. However I view a win here as the cherry on top of an already successful season that was a rebuilding year. Stanford is hunting bigger game than the Rose Bowl for at least the next 4 seasons and will need every athlete available for each shot.

Do you think a theoretical true freshman in 1999 would rather have played in the Rose Bowl, or saved himself for Buddy Teevens?
As great as I think we will be in the years ahead, nothing is certain. If any true frosh is good enough now to contribute meaningfully, play them. And to play in the NC game, the only game you could say is more important than the Rose Bowl, is a complete crap shoot. And if we're getting to that level, I'd hope our recruiting would be in reloading mode anyway. No matter how Cardinal shaded your glasses are, it's more likely than not this will be the only Rose Bowl anybody on this roster plays in.
It's the Rose Bowl! This our second one in 40 years! We don't have the right to act complacently about it!

Nwafor will not play. You'll see Mauro or Hayes in there if needed.

Agree. Whether you think this is a good idea or a not so good one (I'm in the latter camp) it's just not going to happen.
Although if you think that this is the pinnacle of Stanford football and we are headed back to a Buddy like abyss (I don't), it becomes a better one.

I hope our DL has enough beef to hold up against Wisconsin's jumbo sets. Joshua Garnett weighs about 325. Shove the center or guard backwards towards the backfield, or at least hold your ground. What about playing him at NT for a few plays when Parry needs a breather?
