Official 'gater -

I had a nearly frozen hot dog bun and a decently cooked hot dog weiner, as well as two cans of Coke, at the 'gater. Most expensive hot dog and Cokes I've ever had. Should have followed the crowd shying away from the official 'gater, but I did end up seeing a lot of people I wouldn't have seen otherwise. Sigh. Remind me next year to not spring for this kind of sentimental extortion if it doesn't involve easily accessible food.

I actually thought it was OK. Lots of space, some beer and sodas, hopefully everybody got at least some food. I never recognize anyone anywhere, and that was certainly true at this event (perhaps it has something to do with never showing my face at Cardboard gatherings), but it was very cool to see so many Stanford alums/fans hanging out and having a relaxed, good time.
The pep rally? Don't get me started.
Anyway, all's well that ends well.

I didn't spring for the official tailgate and couldn't find Toby. However, I did buy a tri-tip sandwich from the people firing pizza in a mini locomotive. I ran into some old friends there, as well. (also ended up giving my friend my drink by mistake).
I thought the venue for the rally was great! It was good to see LA Live decked out with the Block S. The rally itself didn't seem as energetic as the one before the Fiesta Bowl, though. Nevertheless, I'll settle for a victory and a less enthusiastic pep rally any day!

Aw, I was hoping for a Toby after-action report =\ The group wanted food immediately instead of trawling the parking lots looking for Toby...so official 'gater it was. Not entirely successful, this food expedition, but at least I saw some people I recognized by my respective class year aluminum girders.Â
Entirely satisfied with the game victory, but entirely dissatisfied with the way SAA set up the tailgate.
This year's pep rally space didn't seem to have as much space as last year's rally, and the acoustics this year were terrible. Maybe it's just a case of "them's the breaks in downtown LA."

Can anyone who attended last year's official tailgate give a comparison with this year's?

Best food of the day: the hot dogs and onions from the guys with the shopping carts on the other side of the fence from the line for the shuttle bus. IMO they were also the most ingenious...cooking the dogs on a cookie sheet sitting over cans of sterno....all suspended in the basket of a shopping cart. A moveable feast.

I just got an email from SAA. They are offering refunds to those who went and couldn't get any food. My wife and I are in that department. We spent 30-45 minutes scouring for food and only had two empty hot dog buns to show for it.
The tailgate was a disaster. No question. But all in all, that was a great experience to be there for the Rose Bowl win.

Tough noogies to those who bought their tailgate tickets on the secondary market, I guess. My friend did; I bought mine directly.
I also feel that three hours is far too short of a time in which to tailgate.

The catering company had big issues with food prep and delivery once the late arriving crowd descended.Â
Our table ended up with two plates of cold noodles, several frozen in the middle egg rolls and cold wiener buns for the young ones.  We'd eaten earlier so no brobdingnagian deal but everyone was certainly ready to eat after the game.
The 'gater highlight for us was leaving the near riot at the hot dog pavilion and then seeing a lone tray of hot dogs headed that way. We overheard the caterer saying, "I've got the hot dog situation under control". Yeah, good luck with that one!
Still, all things considered this is a nit - and if the Alumni Association refunds are real then all is forgiven. Of course others may feel differentily. As you can see I'm still basking in the Rose Bowl afterglow.

I couldn't find Toby, though I didn't get the chance to thoroughly investigate. The layout of the Rose Bowl tailgating/parking lots was not the most intuitive :(
How was the crowd there?

Toby the Van needs more advertising as far as their location. I haven't seen it yet.

It was only communicated via their facebook event, I think. Somewhere between lots 1 and 2, look for the pirate/Stanford flags is what I remember.

I looked all over and couldn't find it, and yes, all over includes lot 2.
