In the out of nowhere file: former Stanford commit enrolls at 'bama - cybe - 01-04-2013

Jai Miller, who could have played basketball and football at Stanford the better part of a decade ago...has enrolled at Alabama with a desire to play football.  He ended up playing in the minors and MLB until now.

Ah man.  Did Stanford not have a shot at landing him, or was there no room on the scholarship train?  He'll be able to slot right into a collegiate S&C program with no trouble.

At his age (27) he would be at least 31 if he were to stay four years, get a degree etc.  He pretty clearly doesn't have that path in mind and has only a year or two to get to the NFL, so he'd be a short-term player and probably a lousy fit at Stanford.  For what he seems to want to do, Alabama is the right kind of place.  Not the same situation as when he graduated from high school

Grandfather probably needs the NFL money sooner - Redrum - 01-04-2013

Jai Miller was originally from Alabama,  so trying to play for the perennial NC contender makes sense emotionally.  Jai was aided in his go pro/ go college decision by a grand dad who made it clear when Jai was a HS senior that it was time to cash in on Jai's talents. So, pro baseball it was.    I have no idea if grand dad's still advising Jai,  but selecting the quickest route out of college football would make sense from a cash flow standpoint.  The only trouble with the scenario is that it would probably be easier for Jai to play into a contributing role worth NFL notice on some other team than one that routinely brings in some of the best freshman physical talent in the nation.

Good luck to Jai.  He's gonna need it.
