That's the former 59er DC. Not a hugely impressive defensive team despite a large amount of Tosh Lupoi recruiting feeding talent into them (and the 2011 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Mychal Kendricks). On the other hand, you do have the trusty Jeff Tedford miasma to degrade someone's true level of performance -- maybe he can make like Alamar did with our special teams. The odd thing about this hire is that Pendergast is a 3-4 guy, right? If so, that will impose transition costs on SC, for a coach who has little if any margin for error.
