Big Weekend's first commit is a biggie also - Redrum - 01-13-2013

What recruit had offers from:

Pac 12
Stanford
Arizona
Arizona State
California
Colorado
Oregon
Oregon State
Utah
Washington
Washington State

AND
Notre Dame
Northwestern
Boise State
Houston
Nevada
Purdue
San Jose State

Answer:  Austin Hooper,  TE/ DE from the East Bay
6'4" 237 lbs.  Plays both ways for perennial championship contender De LaSalle.
Scout ranks him #36 as a Def. End, which a lot of gurus believe is a better fit for his talents.  Not a speed burner, but huuuge motor and defensive line technique.  Rivals also rates him as a 3-star DE

Beating Oregon and Cal...Very nice!

Hooper, Taboada (Alabama, Oregon offers among his 20+ offers) and Cotton form a pretty good trio at TE.  hopefully they are as productive as the last time we had 3 (actually) TEs in one class.

Not to be greedy, but I really think Stanford still needs to push hard for Durham Smythe, who is a very polished route runner in the mold of Zach Ertz.

w/ Smythe.  He is a pure TE with a receiver bias and does look like the next Ertz.  Luckily, he's a decommit from Texas and the only school to which he's scheduled a visit [that we know of] is Stanford.  Like our chances.  Think its an admissions play all the way.

According to David Lombardi's tweet, "Stanford TE recruit Durham Smythe just told me his visit was 'awesome.' Oregon next week, Michigan week after. Decision will come soon after."

After sending three TEs to the league in two years (presuming Toilolo gets drafted, which he should), any TE recruit would have to have a pretty compelling reason to choose another place.

Got a lot of good looks in the game against us.  He's pretty good.  Helps Oregon make the case they use the TE in a real scoring machine.
