Stanford gets the most respect from redditors.

Is reddit this year's Twitter? I mean, it's been around for a while, but it's starting to really pick up steam in the mainstream.

What's that in internet dollars?

Approximately one thousand Bitcoins.

Reddit as a whole really started to take off when Digg shot itself in the foot with that ill-received redesign a year or two ago and half its users fled for greener pastures.  Unfortunately, Reddit's most popular subreddits have been in Eternal September ever since.

However, smaller or more content-specific subreddits still often host some pretty good discussions.  r/cfb, the college football subreddit to which Publius linked us, is a bit of a mixed bag.  It contains memes and accusations of circlejerking, but it is still my favorite place to discuss football with fans from all schools because the folks there keep it civil for the most part.  You guys should visit.  We can always use more Stanford fans.

Don't forget http://www.reddit.com/r/StanfordCardinal/ as well, just for Stanford fans.

Re: Stanford, the most respected program - fullmetal - 02-09-2013

Reddit can be a mixed bag of experiences.  It's widely known and there's no depths to which some redditors won't sink in order to poke fun/express their person opinion/drag others down...but reddit serves as an open platform where celebrities (or others with specific experiences) can also connect with 'normal' people--the AMA's (ask me anything) are a great example of that.

If I ever get a reddit account, my free time will disappear so quickly...

Tyler Mabry did a very interesting AMA (it's been linked here before, but it's pertinent to bring back): http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1575dq/iama_former_stanford_football_player_who_played/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

I like reddit, on the whole. /r/cfb is a mixed bag, naturally, but it's a good filter for news and the general mood of CFB as a whole. Do you get your dipshits just making trouble? Of course, but on the whole I think it's worth the ~hour I was putting in most evenings during the season.

The /r/stanfordcardinal is nice too, although not as much discussion as there is here. I wonder, is SaladBar on here? Regardless, I'd advocate checking it occasionally, you'll find some gems.

Yup, that's me.

Hmm, at the moment, you/SaladBar seems to be 85% of the posts. Probably more populous during the FB season?

Re: Stanford, the most respected program - Canalejas - 02-10-2013

Yes, I do post most of the submissions.  The other subscribers are indeed more active during the football season, but this is the first year we've had a subreddit just for Stanford sports.

It began when the mods at r/cfb called for the creation of individual team/school subreddits so that game threads could link to team pages, giving interested readers a detailed background of the participating teams' seasons up to that point.  (By the way, the r/cfb live game threads can be really entertaining.)  After creating the subreddit I didn't want it to stay devoid of content, so I have made myself post something at least once a day on average.  It's basically a curated google news search timeline right now, but if I ever learn CSS it will become more Stanford-y in appearance and maybe a more popular place for discussions.  Not that I want to step on any toes around here.  I like this place a lot, too.

I wholeheartedly support this colonization

Edit:  Huh, this thread about the reddit CFB section has finally got me using reddit after numerous other looks. Previously I had only stumbled onto the latest-internet-meme-junk aspect of reddit.  the CFB area does have a great level of banter among different fan bases. goofy competition over the "flair" icons (your favorite team's logo) next to usernames.
