NJ senior senator Frank Lautenberg, 89, announced that he will not seek reelection, opening the door for Cory Booker to run.
As much as I like Cory, I don't think the senator who shovels walks and rescues puppies is going to work.

I definitely think it could work. DC shuts down in snowstorms. Someone of Cory's evident energy could be put to good use.
At the very least, he could start driving taxis in Adams Morgan. Had to wait thirty minutes for a taxi yesterday.

From what I was hearing (almost exclusively from Slate's Dave Weigel) Booker was running and polling well ahead of Lautenberg, mostly because of the latter's advanced age (I remember reading that he only had about a 1/3 chance of even surviving a hypothetical next term based on actuarial data). My guess is that Lautenberg (or more likely, his staffers) read the writing on the wall.
I don't know much about Booker, but having him in the Senate seems a better use of his talents than being Newark mayor, even if he might not be able to do much.

Love Corey, and wondering just how far he will go. Destined for great things, obviously. And I'm sure the Democratic party leadership spotted that a long time ago.
