Andrus Peat was "phenomenal" -

and we know how rarely Coach Shaw says this! Great audio commentary on the Saturday practice here. I found what he said about freshman QB Dallas Lloyd to be very interesting.
"Don't know his name yet" ???

Nice to hear that about Lloyd. I had/have this fear that he is going to get frustrated and transfer -- so it would be great if he gets some kind of roll.
Is there any word that Kyle Murphy might get some play at right tackle? I had assumed that if he was battling Peat closely they would figure out a way to get them both out there. But maybe it's not so close.

Nice teaser -- that made me listen to the whole interview to find out what it was about.
Spoiler alert:
#45 was a new kicker/punter who isn't officially on the team yet, and Shaw didn't know his name. I looked, and he's not on the spring roster at gostanford.com. I guess he's basically trying out to be a walk-on at this point.

What kind? Kaiser? Cinnamon? Parker house? Garlic knot? I get frustrated too when all that is left are lousy breadsticks.

That was just Shaw practicing his K.iffen impersonation...

Peat is supposed to be a "once in a generation" LT. He had a broken hand last year, which would slow anyone down.
Glad to hear the WR are doing better. If we get average to good downfield results from them, I like our chances.
Murphy - Redrum - 03-11-2013
According to one of the former-player gurus who frequent the Bootleg, Murphy has great moves, technique and instincts. Was actually ahead of Peat last year on the development curve. Shaw said last week that the "light came on" with Peat in this first Spring session and he began being the OT described in the linked article. Murphy has not gotten worse, but he's light for an OT.  Faith in the officially-released player weights is...uncertain but Murphy is estimated at anywhere between 272 to 280- something lbs. and they'd like him to be playing closer to 300. Apparently there are some responsibilities of OTs that can't be pulled off with just technique, but also require stark bulk. We hope that Murphy can develop and not lose quickness or speed.

I for one tend to assume that young players will just come in and, as a matter of course, bulk up if necessary. But some guys take a few years to add the weight they need, and a few are just never able to add the bulk they need. Hopefully, Murphy is in the former camp, and at some point in the next year or so he has the size to go along with his agility, to make him a special player.

If Murphy is a little undersized, but agile, I would expect that we would see a lot of him in the McGillicuddy position, FB, TE, extra tackle, moving around and creating headaches.
