Spring Session Part Deux Preview -
FarmBoy - 03-19-2013
A nice write up from Dave Lombardi.

A few quotes to whet the appetite:
Quote:"Physically, [Luke] is as big as Levine Toilolo now," Coach David Shaw raved. "The amazing part is that Levine's a senior, and Luke's still a freshman."
Quote:For the first time since Andrew Luck manned the controls, the Cardinal defense has not consistently overwhelmed its own offense during open exhibitions. Beef up front has breathed air into the offensive attack.
Quote:Whereas the Farm Boys' 2012 unit sacrificed a few pounds at most spots to maintain required agility, the 2013 offensive line is shaping up to feature a supernatural combination of size and quickness. Between Peat's emergence, David Yankey's shift to left guard, a larger replacement for center Sam Schwartzstein, and general offseason strengthening throughout all the diesel positions, the Cardinal's offensive line projects to average about 10 pounds heavier at each spot than last year's.
Quote:Skov's return is particularly intriguing. Coaches and training personnel have confirmed that his explosiveness did indeed improve on a weekly basis coming off his devastating 2011 knee injury. There is solid optimism bordering on certainty coming from the Stanford camp that the fifth-year senior will be better than his pre-injury self in 2013.
I can't wait to see this team in the fall.

Can anyone think of a logical reason for only opening the sunny side of the stadium seating for the spring game? I know several people who have changed from "Definitely going" to "Depends on the weather."

I can only assume it's a combination of "too expensive to open the whole thing" and "the 'choose your own seats' deal is on the sunny side". I was going to sit in my season ticket seat, which is on the sunny side endzone, so it doesn't affect my choice at all. But it does seem weird given the timing, could be really sunny that day.

My guess is they want all of the fans to sit relatively close together and they will train the cameras on that side of the field to make it look better on TV. It's going to be broadcast, right? It also makes for a better atmosphere if there a critical mass of fans sitting near one another.

The football portion of the Bootleg podcast really has be excited for this season:

This line is 50lbs heavier and probably more athletic than last year, and that's counting Garnett who's considered under ideal weight? This could be a truly ridiculous run game, even if we're not sure who's carrying the ball.

Via Wilner, Pac12 press release that all Pac12 schools' spring games will be televised. They claim we're the only conference to do it. I'm kind of surprised the B1G and SEC haven't already gotten there.

I'm glad I'll be able to watch the offensive resurgence from my living room. I think I'll try to tune in to the Ca.l game a bit this Saturday to see what the hullabaloo is all about with this new-fangled spread offense theys growin' over thar.

Interestingly, neither Michigan nor Ohio State's spring games will be televised:

Ted Miller talks about Stanford's spring practices here:
