Whaddya say we oblige him? There's this great office we could have him occupy. Currently it's Johnny Dawkins's, but, you know...

Also, USA! USA! Got the draw from Mexico in El Azteca.

Re: Blowout! And on to Spokane - Yellowlab - 03-26-2013

That was by far the most satisfying game of the year.  We were at the Baylor game, but we had a hard time breathing for most of it.  This was an unexpected treat.  My question is this:  What does one do in Spokane?

Re: Blowout! And on to Spokane - sheriand - 03-26-2013

This was such a fun game tonight!!  We established strength early and build a nice lead, and there was never any doubt.  There haven't been that many games this year where we fans could be this relaxed and just really enjoy it.  The fans were loud and happy, especially, as Garvin noted, for Jos's stellar performance.  It was a nice team effort.  Everyone seemed to be playing with positive energy and focus.  The defense was outstanding, which we have come to expect.  The offense, more surprisingly, was also outstanding.  There were several opportunities for my favorite cheer "2X plus 4, where X is your score."    Whatever pep talk Tara gave the team, let's hope someone got it on tape and we can play it again as the tournament progresses.

Great game for the team. A favorable matchup (speed-wise), but the players still had to perform. A very nice way to leave Maples for the Senior(s).
Keep it going.

Re: Blowout! And on to Spokane - 81alum - 03-26-2013

I have not felt this warm and fuzzy since last year when Grace Mashore came into the game on senior day at Maples and hit a three for her only basket of the year.

Now, lets keep the faucet of three point shooting running--for four more games.

Re: Blowout! And on to Spokane - M T - 03-27-2013

Well, Stanford found a work-around for a lower offensive rebound percentage: Don't miss.

A fun game for the fans and one team.  Unfortunately we know how the Michigan team & fans felt as it must have felt a lot like the UConn game did to us.  I was clapping strongly for their starters when they were pulled.  I felt bad for #12 Kate Thompson.  Having Sara on her was just as punishing as having a continuous double or triple team on your big.  Thompson fought hard all game long to get free, but it wasn't to be.  And it wasn't just Sara on her.  I was also impressed with Bonnie's defense.  And it wasn't just Thompson either.  We shut down everyone but Jenny Ryan (5/5 including a 3).

I wonder, is it Kate Paye that is coaching the tight defense?

I think we could have won the game with either our offense or our defense, but the defense was clearly the more outstanding aspect.  40 points won't win many games.

Perhaps surprisingly, Michigan had some good aspects of their game tonight.  9 for 9 from the FT line is always good.  71% of their field goals came with assists.  But I think the best is that Michigan committed only 3 fouls.  That's amazing (and, quite possibly, foreshadowing of the way the tournament games are to be called).  We committed our season average of 13 fouls.  We beat our season average on both OR% and DR% (43% and 74%).  A high dribble let Michigan get the only fast break points for either team.  Of course, our 12 threes were a season high (but our 48% 3PT% only tied for 4th best of the season).  Our 3PTA% (3PTA/FGA) of 48% was the season's second highest.    Although we only had 11 TO and 13 fouls, Michigan got half their points on points-off-turnovers plus foul shots.

I don't think we'll see another zone during the tournament.

It is kinda interesting to see the Tulsa and Michigan games next to each other in my stats.  FG: 29/55 vs 28/52.  3PT%: 38% vs 48%.  2PT%: 57% vs 59%.  A/FG: 48% vs 50%.  The biggest differences were the 3PTA% (24% vs 48%)  and OR% (30% vs 43%)

Tara could have substituted the reserves a bit earlier, but I wasn't really disappointed with when she did.  It was their last game at home.  The crowd was really supportive and the players were having fun.

All the starters had good games.  I saw a few things (across at least 4 players) that could be better, but not a string of them.

Congrats to the team and the coaches!

That's incredible. I mean that literally -- it is simply not credible that Michigan committed only three fouls.

Re: Blowout! And on to Spokane - ceece - 03-27-2013

The refs never saw all the double team holding on Chiney. They could have called that on nearly every possession if they cared about it. Or maybe if they had called it once or twice it might have stopped....

but other than that, there really weren't that many fouls. Haven't seen this clean a defense from an opponent in years.
