Re: CardBoard myopia - yvonne - 09-26-2010

Crump\'s being a cal alum and partisan is irrelevant to the issue of whether Wilner is.

Re: CardBoard myopia - slide - 09-26-2010

other than being more wrong than right (ranking James Madison over Stanford?) or offering little in the way of original thought or compelling writing (Garvin you could help him here), I just think Wilner is lazy.  I suppose his effort justifies his base pay.

Quirkiness is SO undervalued - Redrum - 09-26-2010

In a surprisingly long and detailed blog on his top-25 voting,  Wilner said he was dropping James Madison from his top 25 because, despite their signature win over Va Tech,  James Madison\'s schedule from here on was-- to paraphrase-- a collection of unworthy midgets.   And, no, he was not referring to Notre Dame\'s future schedule, either, though he fairly could have been.

Of course, this schedule is exactly the same schedule JMU had when Wilner voted them into the top 25 over Stanford a couple weeks ago.  If the schedule was set and public and enough to vote them out of the Top 25 now,   why wasn\'t it enough to trump Wilner\'s vote two weeks ago?   Nothing has changed...

Except, perhaps, sometime Saturday Wilner finally got around to looking it up and considering it.   Which leaves us a choice of "villains":  Lazy Wilner  or  Quirky Wilner  or  Lazy, Quirky Wilner

Or, as Yvonne succinctly noted:  The Chronicle/Crumpacker\'s bias doesn\'t disprove or somehow improve  the Merc/Wilner\'s  bias.   I would have phrased it "Wilner\'s bug up his a**",  but Yvonne\'s message was clear enough.

An interesting gedankenexperiment :  What if, in some parallel universe,  Wilner was just another sportswriter caught up in and laid off in the Great Newspaper Collapse.  Suppose also that he caught a break and was brought on at the Ames Daily Bugle Clarion. Would he be writing about how sucky Iowa St. was?   Would Wilner just unpack his act and keep on?  Would he start using Stanford as an example of why Iowa St. shouldn\'t feel so bad, there was this school out in Palo Alto...

There\'s a pretty rude, sexual epithet in... - Redrum - 09-26-2010

Crumpacker,  if one were of a mind to follow that train of thought.

Maybe we aren\'t outraged because Crumpacker\'s  kal mind-slavery is not news.    The Chron makes no bones about what he is and his function.  Kal funds ads on the web page,  Kal gets its own shill.  ZZZZzzzzzzz.

But Wilner keeps trying to prolong his journalistic fan dance,  hoping he\'s got coverage if he just keeps the fans in motion.   Sometimes he pretends to be a reporter,  other times a blogger,  other times posturing as the vox publica.   Maybe it\'s pathetic of us to expect him to act with more principle than the Chron\'s paid shill,  but hope dies hard...so we are hard on him.
