New Cal Uniforms - pcgoode - 04-10-2013

Haven't seen this posted yet, but they were revealed today.  I don't like them for many reasons (it is Cal after all), but I will let others decide for themselves:

Re: New Low APR U Uniforms - Farm93 - 04-10-2013

Little bears on the shoulder and on the hip seem fine, and definitely better than those odd warrior plucked duck feathers on the Oregon uniforms.

Last week I saw a woman with a blue and gold "BERKELEY" shirt while at lunch.  I saw a UC-Berkeley license plate frame on the way home.  And most weeks I can spot at least few script-Cal or Go Bears license plate frames.  I guess their bookstore has a lot of different looks to increase sales.

Cal, California, University of California, UC-Berkeley, Berkeley, Golden Bears, "Big Blue"... At least with that many names they have a chance to create more uniform options than the Oregon Ducks.

Re: New Low APR U Uniforms - stupac2 - 04-10-2013

Am I the only one who's absolutely sick and tired of all this uniform nonsense? Just a giant "who cares?" to me. I'm glad that we haven't done much of that lately (how long have the black uniforms been around?)

Re: New Low APR U Uniforms - BrevinsBest - 04-10-2013

I actually think the new uniform design is well done. The one design element that I haven't been able to wrap my head around is the blue bear on the blue jersey. It's hard to see in the photo and probably very hard to see on TV, but that doesn't really matter since I have DTV.

The yellow top-to-bottom is going to be hideous.

A Kal rorschach test - Redrum - 04-10-2013

Look at the animal, then let your eyes unfocus or let your mind stop telling you it must be a b>ear.  That's one way to view it.  A bear, menacing mouth open coming straight for you.  But if you look again,  the mouth becomes the whole muzzle of another animal and a kind of cartoonish primate or baboon, with a slight smile on its face, is ambling toward you hoping your pockets are full of carrots or apples.

I think the blue uniforms look pretty good. I don't really like the yellow jerseys, especially with the yellow pants. How often do they wear yellow?

Re: New Low APR U Uniforms - yvonne - 04-10-2013

I'm a fan of retro. If it were up to me, I'd even try to mimic the leather helmets. I know about brain issues, so I wouldn't want to actually use them. Those Pittsburgh Steeler uniforms that everyone hated? I loved them.

I didn't see any white football uniforms on the page, so maybe they're planning to always wear yellow instead of white when they're the visiting team. However, is that legal? I found a purported quote from the NCAA rule book online that specifically says:

Quote:Players of opposing teams shall wear jerseys of contrasting colors, and the visiting team shall wear white jerseys. White jerseys may be worn by the home team when the teams have agreed before the season.

That doesn't seem to allow for yellow.

Re: New Low APR U Uniforms - Farm93 - 04-10-2013

In the Final Four Michigan was wearing "Maize" while Syracuse was in Orange.

So I think that yellow can replace white if everyone is OK with it, at least in some sports.

The whole rule is rather silly since it probably was established to maximize contrast back when black and white TVs were the norm.
