Spring Game. .. So far, not too bad - Redrum - 04-13-2013
Defense not bad, the offense is just better than last year. Michael Rector TD (fighting for it), Ty Montgomery TD. Hogan looking more comfortable, Davis Dudchock, formerly the Davis Who? of the TE corps, catching balls in traffic. Wilk running for some tough yards.
Gaffney tough down near the goal line but still rusty. Barry Sanders showing some running moves. I guess Remound Wright is still dinged up. Bummer. Kyle Murphy doesn't look like a drop-off in talent when Peat goes out at LT. Still looking for Blake Lueders but haven't seen him. Probably my reflex to watch the offense once the play starts.
So far, nobody hurt. fingers crossed.

Overall I'm pretty pleased. However, I'm pretty disappointed in Kamatule so far. He's 0/3, all catchable balls dropped (I believe, may have missed something). I was definitely hoping for more from him.
So far none of the questions seem to be definitively answered, but most everyone has made a play or two. Looking positive.

I think teams that are expecting an all defense Stanford team are in for a very rude awakening.
That number 26 isn't too bad.

He's definitely shown flashes, but I think Neuheisel's criticisms are valid, he does seem to give up on following the fullback too often.
Also, where is Young? I'm really surprised we haven't seen him yet, I'll admit to being a bit worried.

Held out for the game for unknown reasons. (but "precautionary":

Liked Michael Rector quite a bit. He, Montgomery and Whitfield looked like a solid trio.

More second half - Redrum - 04-13-2013
My offensive player of the second half =FB Lee Ward had 3 plays in a row early in the 2nd half where he made the play with his blocks, 2 at the corner that got the runner loose. Got lots of playing time and stoned his man every time. Couple more long runs late in the second that Ward's block made work.Â
Jordan Watkins, young DT gets lots of reps against the 1's in the second half. Not much joy but finally takes an inside route with a clear shot at Hogan...and whiffs. Bummer. it was straight shot.
Jordan Pratt looks like the real deal for possession receiver.

Few thoughts:
* Seemed like we passed more than was advisable (if it were a normal game), and used less playaction than we should. Probably more a point of emphasis than an actual sign of the direction of the offense
* Hogan (naturally) got to use his legs less frequently than he would in a usual game, so the two preceding facts definitely downgraded the offense.
* Hogan was up-and-down as a thrower. Still not quite accurate enough on long throws, though he did complete one to Rector (though that had almost nothing to do with Hogan). Considering how little he used his legs, I think it was more encouraging than not, though he surely needs to improve.
* I was frustrated how much shotgun we used relative to pistol. I'd like more of the latter.
* Depth chart-wise, looked like we saw Rector/Montgomery/Whitfield as the top group at WR, more Wilkerson than Gaffney, a genuine split at Center (but slightly more Danser?); defensively I thought maybe more Vaughters than Lueders and more Lyons than the rest of the horde at CB.

I don't know what Neuheisal said, but I wonder whether his talent is a hindrance. He didn't seem to follow his blocks, and I suspect he didn't have to in high school.

I thought the emphasis on passing was by design. We already know we have good running backs, but the passing game needed the work.

I thought it looked good on tv. I was originally a bit pissy because I wanted to see Lloyd get more snaps, but by the end I was liking what I saw in Crower.Â

Young with a slight hamstring. Problem
With the possible retirement of Nunes I think that caused us to have Crowder throw much more than he might normally.Â
