A Modest (very) Proposal - Pastor - 09-26-2010

I suggest we establish the Cardboard Cup.  The honor is a trophy given to the sportsperson that the Cardboard Community deems the Coolest Dude Stanford athlete of the year.

We would have nominations every May and then the final vote (via poll) in early June.  Every Cardboard  person could nominate (or we could have a nominating committee) and vote.  I would be willing to purchase the cup trophy and have it engraved for at least the first 5 years.  Details to be worked out.

dude is a generic term for person.  So a person (no animals) who we think is the coolest....there are plenty of awards for best athlete and congeniality etc.  This about who we like the most for style and class of their very own.  It could be a club player or a synchro swimmer.  The nominator has to make the case.  I would not want it to be too formal so our definition of cool could change over time.

Maybe a better answer is we define it anyway the community feels we want to do so.  Wacky or serious, razzie or Oscar.

National Volleyball Player of the Year (think Voldemort Trophy winner, men\'s volleyball), and recipient of post-graduate NCAA scholarship.  Went from a team with two wins to NCAA championship last year.   He\'s the man.

I like the idea of a Cardboard fan award.    It\'s a neat idea and should be doable.

Some honest questions ....

Could we pull it off here or would we want to "partner" with that other site?  

Who nominates and who would be allowed to vote?  How do we stop folks from gaming the vote?

Do we give the cup to the winning athlete?   Would the AD like the idea enough to give access to them?  (IE, get the cup to them? And back from them at the end of the year?)

voters - cardboard members of course.  maybe weight the votes by how long each poster has been a member of the board? :p  (or by post count, thereby turning the vote into a "let\'s see what garvin and redrum have to say" contest.)

i didn\'t think this award was going to manifest itself IRL, but it\'d be pretty cool...
