Changes For Baseball? - sheriand - 05-14-2013

It was a miserable weekend at Sunken Diamond as we were swept by Oregon State.  There's been a lot of fan heartbreak this season.  It's hard to understand how a team with so much talent can underperform so much.  The attached report from David Lombardi, originally on the Bootleg, sums it up pretty well:

A fan told me that Dean Stotz, the Assistant Head Coach  of 37 years, is retiring after this season.  I can find nothing official to confirm this.  It makes me wonder whether there are other changes in store for the program.  When will Coach Marquess retire?  I would be interested in what others think.

Dean retiring would be a shock.  Have not heard a word.  But a very disappointing season.  Losing 2 of my projected weekend starters hurt but pitching hasn't been the big problem.  9 is about 66.  Class of 69.  So who knows?

Another bad night last night.  Ugh.

I absolutely did not see that one coming.  I don't know whether the team is mentally out of sorts or whether they're in active discontent...it just seems unthinkable that this could happen at all.

My questions after it looks like the 4th year in the last 7 that Stanford will miss the NCAA playoffs:
- has the game passed Marquess by?
- can Marquess adjust/adapt to the changes?
- if not, should he retire?

If it's time for him to go, he needs to decided that and leave on his own terms.  After what he's done for/to the program and the AD in general, he deserves no less.
