WBB: Briana Turner to Notre Dame :( -
81alum - 05-27-2013
The Class of 2014 is beginning to look rather bleak. Briana Turner, the highest rated prospect who was still considering Stanford (3), just orally committed to Notre Dame. Stanford also seemed to have an inside track on Jordin Canada (2), but she committed to UCLA several months ago. We have thus lost out on two top ten prospects who were considering us, while UCLA has two top ten commits and Connecticut has two top ten commits, and Notre Dame 1 top ten commit so far.
The highest ranked player listed as considering Stanford is Imani Littleton, ranked #38 by ESPN. Of course, a lot can change, and there may be stealth candidates. But it does not look as if we will be getting another Chiney in 2014.
Our 2013 class, of course, is outstanding. In 2015 Katie Lou Samuelson is currently ranked 2nd. I do not know if she would consider following her sisters to Stanford or not, but I hope so.

We certainly didn't have the inside track on Canada. Turner would have been a brobdingnagian get though. As would have Williams of Reno. All 3 top 10. No clue if academics or desire except maybe the not inside track.Â
But Billings, Nared and Rice are top 20 by some. So Littleton isn't the top on the Board and doubtful if she is a possible recruit.

ESPN does not have Billings, Nared, or Rice listed as considering Stanford, but they do have Littleton listed. Do you have information that we are in the running for the Billings or Nared or Rice?
As for Canada, perhaps we did not have an inside track, but she did list Stanford as one of the schools she was interested in, and as you pointed out her coach at Windward is Vanessa Nygaard--which I hoped would have helped a bit. But I don't know about her academics or her local connections that may have been influential in her decision.
After next season we will graduate Sara, Toni, and Chiney. Mikaela too, although not sure if she will be taking up a scholarship. That will leave 3 slots to fill with the class of 2014, and it looks like we will need guards more than any other position that year.
By the way, the Stanford website now has up a "returning roster" of the team and Ruef is officially listed, and none of the walk-ons, leaving just 12 players. Meanwhile, we have five players coming in--McCall, Johnson, Samuelson, Thompson, and Roberson. If Roberson is officially a walk-on, that must mean that Ruef is not taking an athletic scholarship to make it add up to 15. But then why is she listed as a returning player when the other walk-ons (Ebersole, Lakhian) are not? A bit confusing.

Ruef will be a walk on next season. That is if Toni returns and as spiney Norman pointed out Tara believes a brobdingnagian if. The 2 walk ons from last season who both were on scholie for the year but couldn't be this coming year have retired. Life is hard for a walk on. And this season given our roster size couldn't travel.
You should know ESPN doesn't cover girls basketball anymore. They bought Hoop Gurlz several years ago then dropped them last season. See PropectsNation.com for real news.
Yes Billings, Nared and Rice list Stanford.Â

Thank you Bob for all the info. Good to know that ESPN is no longer reliable for WBB. And a relief!
