PAC-12 Announces Early Football Times - stupac2 - 05-29-2013

Wilner has them: http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegesports/2013/05/29/pac-12-football-tv-schedule-for-early-season-games/

The only ones Stanford has are SJSU, which is at 8PM, @Army, which is at 9AM, and Oregon at 6PM (all Pacific).

I was really hoping SJSU would be a noon game as a buddy's bachelor party is that day. I'll try to figure out a way to do both but it seems bleak. If anyone needs two tickets to that game, hit me up.

(Also missing ASU because I'll be in Europe. I thought this year I'd finally be able to make all the games, and I'm going to miss more than ever...)

The stadium is known to some as the Big Wok because of the way it heats up during late summer/early fall day games.  You'll see tv shots of half empty stands because so many people are standing in the shade of the concourse.

For the sake of the players and the fans, all September home games should be played in the late afternoon or evening.

Let's just ask John Arrillaga for a retractable dome over the stadium to make day games more comfortable.  And Google should incorporate Stanford games into Google Glasses so that fans can watch online while pretending to be interested in their kids' Saturday afternoon soccer games.

I'm in the sunny endzone and the day games don't bother me. I've always thought the complaints about the heat were a bit silly.

But but. But we don't hardly ever play day games in Sept.  that would be rare. :)

I wonder if Stanford having a Week 1 bye and then having the latest kickoff time for week 2 will negatively impact the Cardinal's poll position early in the season.  A lot of voters appear to fill in their ballots long before west coast games finish.

I think the week one bye is more likely to have its impact later in the season as players get injured.

People who think that is unbearably hot should sit in the afternoon sun at an FSU game in Tallahassee sometime.
Unfortunately there is no concourse to stand in.

Re: PAC-12 Announces Early Football Times - Treebound - 05-30-2013

Spiny, I've never heard it called the "Big Wok," but a number of us have nicknamed it the "Big Hibachi" as the shape is more Hibachi-like.  The first two years the stadium opened we had a large group over on the sunny side upper section and that first season the Sept games were in the early afternoon.  The kids were melting as it was like a giant convection oven with all the metal.  Feedback to the AD was overwhelming about pushing the Sep games back into the early evening.      We have since moved everyone over onto the shady side so it's not as much of an issue.  Unlike those early Wlat years, we are winning now, so that helps to keep everyone's temperature down....No more quick kicks on third down which used to get me hot under the collar!

As I sit here at CDG in Paris waiting for my flight home, I can guarantee you that traveling through Europe beats attending a football game every time.  After five weeks here, I'm still not ready to return.

I'll be back every year until I can no longer get around on my own.  Next time, a return to Turkey, Croatia, etc. etc. etc.

P.S. Aside to Garvin...  Lenin looks great resting comfortably in his tomb and I don't think it is possible to do a better job of lighting landmarks at night than Russia does at the Kremlin.

Re: PAC-12 Announces Early Football Times - Kathy - 05-31-2013

I'd rather go to Europe than watch the weenies play football, too.

Obviously 71Bear has never attended the Rose Bowl.

Watching your alma mater win the Granddaddy of Them All beats the Cabinet War Rooms, the D'Orsay, and the Scavi Tour.
