Today in official opponent attrition/gaining: ND/UCLA edition -
washingtonismoney - 06-04-2013
High-level Domer recruit Eddie Vanderdoes has officially decided to not go to N.D. and instead go to UCLA. However -- from a purely self-interested perspective -- this isn't just pushing players around, as:
1) it screws up Irish recruiting plans, as they have little depth at the position and was hoping that Vanderdoes could step in and help immediately
2) because N.D. isn't totally releasing Vanderdoes from the letter of intent, Vanderdoes is losing a year of eligibility -- so he'll only have four years to play three for UCLA (and can't actually play in 2012).
So something must have really caused Vanderdoes to sour on life in South Bend, which seems to be something of a trend for those guys.

Does Einstein know about this?

Not wild about UCLA being able to get a guy we couldn't. Would rather he go to Bama or Dartmouth.

With any luck, he'll only stay two years after sitting out the 2013 season.

No, but John Connor does.

Well, sure. But given that he was always likely to play for an opponent, this scenario is probably the most beneficial way it could've turned out.

We actually offered Olsen, but Burns was always the #1 choice.

Young Kevin could have been a Stanford man. Alas he chose the U, and so began the tale on how he became Florida Man.
One does wonder about the direction of causation here. Does the U chose thugs, does the U turn them into thugs, or as econometricians would describe it: is it simultaneity?

Was Greg Olsen's nickname actually G-reg or is that reporter just dropping some 7th Floor Crew knowledge? And with those bloodlines is anyone surprised?

Notre Dame's Golic transferring to Cincinnati
Quote:The South Bend Tribune reports: Tight end Jake Golic, son of former Irish defensive lineman Mike Golic, announced via Twitter that he will join quarterback Gunner Kiel in transferring to Cincinnati.
Golic did not catch a pass while appearing in five games as a backup to standouts Kyle Rudolph and Tyler Eifert.
