A good point made at the expense of U..S.C. Ted Miller. Good job.

If we can get PSAT scores on those junior high kids, maybe Stanford can join in the fun.

No.

PSATs are administered during the sophomore year of high school. Some 7th graders take the SAT for practice, and those scores make them eligible to apply for the Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP). That program is not really a big deal.

My dear CARDboard friends,
When I say something stupid, please assume I'm being sarcastic. I thought Lane Violation and Jimmy Jim's offers are so stupid that it's obvious on face value that I'm kidding. I'll try to remember to add the :P emoticon next time.Â
Offering 8th graders is such a bad idea, I don't know where to begin. First, it's disingenuous. If the 8th grader doesn't develop, do you really think Lane Violation or Jimmy Jim will honor this offer? One possible result is that these offers go to these kids' head and they will stop putting in a full effort academically and athletically. Sad. SMH.

On Miller's post on the topic, a US.C fan mentions that the 8th grade QB who was ofered a few years back is still a top recruit and remains commited and that a couple of the player's teammates who are 4/5 star recruits are also US.C commits. The strategy may create that early loyalty to your program needed to draw a top recruit to your program, and as mentioned, if the kid doesn't develop, you just pull the offer.
I think Miller's point that parents should discourage this practice is more important. It may be good for the program offering, but it is unlikely to do positive things for the player.

And when was the last time U
SC exhibited more concern over the player than the program?

Apparently UCLA wanted in on the fetus-offering game:

If everybody starts falling down this slippery slope, Shaw will also have to ask these expecting couples about their SAT scores.
