Farewell, Flemming -

I must admit, I'm a tad disappointed he's not prioritizing Stanford football over some of his other gigs, but you can't begrudge a guy trying advance his career. I enjoyed his play by play.

Well, don't be too hard on Flemming - Redrum - 07-05-2013
After all, garvin ditched his cool gig at the Stanford Daily and that worked out for him and the Daily. Garvin and I differ on Flemming. I liked his broadcasts, but really only listened when TV wasn't available or the TV network put on their special stupid crew. To me, of the Flemming/Husak Stanford broadcast team, Husak was delivering the best value, but that had more to do with subject matter and his role in the duo.
Also, we have just GOT to infiltrate Stanford guys into the upper echelons of sports broadcasting. Rod Gilmore seems trapped in the second tier games.

Can't fault the guy for wanting to keep day jobs with the Giants and ESPN. Still, I'm hoping that he regrets his move as the upcoming season could be an historic one for Stanford football.
Of course, *LAST* season was historic as well. :) It's good to be a Stanford fan right now.

The article points out that his 1st game for Stanford was the '07 upset of US.C. His presence in the booth covered one of the greatest runs of Stanford football ever. I'm guessing that run also accelerated his career prospects as Stanford became a hot commodity, more people were exposed to his skill.
I agree with Redrum that Husak provide a lot of great color commentary and hopefully he can stay on.

Dave Lombardi, although still really young, could be one to watch.
Lombardi - Redrum - 07-05-2013
Has done some really good stuff for the Bootleg. His series talking to recruits is a little less enchanting, but mainly because 17-18 yr. old kids just aren't that articulate or-- to be frank-- that interesting.Â
He does work for KZSU, too, yes? I stopped listening to their broadcasts when my internet feed and Stanford's TV coverage got better. Does he do the Stanford games on KZSU, too?

He worked for KZSU when he was a student, but I don't think he does anymore. I think he'd do a great job taking over for Flemming.

I got scared I thought something happened to Cameron Fleming

I'm glad I'm not the only one. My heart skipped a beat when I saw this headline.

I bet Murphy could take over for Cameron Fleming, but there would be an initial drop off, especially in the run game.

Yeah, Bob Murphy can't be that fast these days.

I will really miss Fleming - I liked his voice, Stanford connection and focus on the game while letting the action tell the story. Admittedly some of this was a positive reaction to the change from Flemming's much beloved but increasingly intrusive predecessor.Â
Yeah, bringing back a Murphy to replace a Flemming should be frowned upon - and not just because of his slow 40 speed!

Murphy = Husak, not Flemming

Former Stanford student-athlete Dave Raymond (

I'm with Hank... as much as I like Fleming, I've enjoyed Dave Lombardi's work covering Stanford too.

True for football. I guess we could bring back John Platz!

Flemming was fine, but when you say Voice of the Cardinal I still prefer Don Klein. He would call Stanford games on Saturday then the Niners on Sunday.

This is Klein's call of the final minutes of the NFC 1981 championship game vs. Dallas that included The Catch. The first voice is that of color man Wayne Walker before Klein takes over.
