Stanford supposedly interested in UT transfer QB Connor Brewer -

I find it hard to believe that the coaching staff expressed interest given the depth at the position. And I find it hard to believe that he'd come to Stanford when the reason for leaving is falling behind in the depth chart at Texas. Talk about going from the frying pan into the fire.
There's the history of QBs leaving Stanford. Frost and Nottingham come to mind. I can't remember any QBs transferring in. And I wonder if admissions is even tougher for transfer football players.

Glyn Milburn and Ellery Roberts famously transfered in back in 1988, but I don't remember any quarterbacks. One thing to keep in mind is that this report comes from Brewer himself. Could it be that he's trying to create his own hype? Like you, I can't imagine that Stanford would really be interested.

If it will help in some small way to hasten Mack Brown's firing, I want him to be a stud for someone.
Can he catch?

Last QB to transfer was Jason Forcier, who played briefly in the stirring 2008 comeback win to Arizona.

If he can't take a run at either David Ash or
Colt Case McCoy - or thinks that Swoopes is going to pass him by - then I don't think he'd be any higher on the depth chart for us. We're stronger and deeper at QB than the Longhorns are.

You mean Case McCoy--Colt's been in the NFL for a while. But I don't think Case is with the team anymore? Memory's fuzzy on that one. Point still stands--if Connor Brewer wasn't heir apparent this year, then he won't be contending at Stanford. Were his academics good enough for Stanford anyway?
Also, don't forget Chase Beeler...I think he was a transfer as well.

Fairly certain you're right. Oklahoma?

Beeler did transfer in from OK. And Konrad Reuland from Notre Dame. As for Brewer, I think he had a very high GPA in HS but UT offered him early so i doubt Stanford spent much time chasing him. Probably him and his dad spreading rumors. Clearly a bust.

The transfers of Glyn Milburn and Chase Beeler are remarkably similar. Glyn Milburn was a top recruit out of Santa Monica High School. He was also a top student, and he wanted to go to Stanford. Milburn's stepfather wanted him to go to Oklahoma, which was then coached by Barry Switzer. The NCAA rules required a parent to cosign his letter of intent as he was under 18. (A fair rule? That's subject to discussion.) Because of this, Milburn ended up at Oklahoma. He opted to transfer after a year to his first choice. In a side note, the celebrated "bad boy" of Oklahoma in the late 1908's, Brian Bosworth, wrote an autobiography titled, "The Boz", describing in part the behavior in the football dorms at Oklahoma (drugs and yes, gunplay, were involved). He did mention Milburn in a couple of lines, saying Milburn didn't appreciate what was going on and didn't fit in there. I can understand .
Chase Beeler was a top recruit as well as a National Merit Finalist in Jenks HS, which is a suburb of Tulsa, OK. OU made a big push for him - their university president, a former US senator, personally recruited him. He wanted Stanford from the beginning, but there was too much pressure from the family to stay close to home. After a year at OU, he said it wasn't the right fit.

Hey Spiny, do the Sooners have anybody on their roster that's smart and not fitting in? Preferably a TE or a WR?

Thanks, fullmetal. Yes, I meant Case. Now corrected. Colt was a great college QB. His brother not so much.
Publius, as for other Sooners, I see that they just got a commitment from an OG for the Class of 2015 named Josh Wariboko. Rivals showed that Stanford was one of his schools of interest prior to that commitment, and they list him as 6'3" 310lbs.
He attends Casady which is where I went from K through 8th grade (and where I would've gone to high school if we hadn't moved). It was the best school in OKC at the time and I'm sure it's still highly-regarded. (Though Barry Sanders might contest that; he went to Heritage Hall, the rival private school a couple of miles away). Perhaps Josh might eventually be another candidate to be plucked from OU since one can never have too many bruisers on the front lines. ;)

I would love for Stanford to be known as "O-Line U" or even "Lineman U"...fundamentals win games.

There was also a guy who transferred in from Michigan during Walsh's second tenure. I think his last name was Harris, and he was #99 or #95. He was a highly touted high school player, but I never saw him get on the field during his time on the farm.

Wasn't Jon Ritchie the UM transfer? Mark Harris came from Juco and played a lot. Same timeframe.
Anyone recall what happened with Robert Smith?

The 2010 team owed a lot to transfers: Konrad Reuland and Chase Beeler were each staters on offense, and Nate Whitaker was a pretty darn solid kicker.

I didn't realize Brian Bosworth was that old.

Not Mark Harris. Now I'm not even sure Harris was his last name. He was a linebacker who came in with Walsh's first recruiting class (in his second Stanford stint), and I remember seeing him on the sidelines, but I never saw him play in any games. Not even sure how many years he was at Stanford.

I graduated in 1986, and then went to grad school in Massachusetts. Never played a down of football, although I did appear on field in one memorable incident.
Oh, wait, perhaps you mean somebody else.
The Ohio Starte running back who later played for the Vikings and is now an ESPN analyst?
Nevermind.

Surely, the payroll offices mixed up your checks at least once, right?

I remember the chatter about him transferring to Stanford because of his unhappiness with the discouragement of academics by John Cooper at Ohio State. I wonder why he didn't come. He would have been much happier if he came to Stanford in the first place and I think he would have fulfilled his dream of being a doctor if he had come to the Farm.
He's the cautionary tale for the players that succumb to the pressure to stay home and play for the local football factory.
